  7. This is probably some kind of blasphemy, but I like the Over the Hedge version of “Rockin’ the Suburbs” more than the original.

I’m interested in the SNL film

  9. I don't get it, is there something specifically wrong with the casting or is it just the fact that there's gonna be an SNL film? I thought Up in the Air and his films with Diablo Cody were fine

I watched GoldDerby's very very early 2025 Oscar predictions. The 8 they all agreed will be the big Oscar films this year

    • Blitz - Steve McQueen directed/written WW2 drama for Apple starring Saoirse Ronan and Harris Dickinson
    • Kinds Of Kindness - Yorgos' followup to Poor Things from Searchlight starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, and Willem Dafoe
    • Sing Sing - A24 film from Greg Kewdar about a group of prisoners who stage a theatrical musical. Starring Colman Domingo
    • The Nickel Boys - Amazon MGM film from RaMell Ross about the abuse in all black boys correctional schools in the 1960's
    • Conclave - Focus Features. Directed by Edward Berger in his followup to All Quiet on the Western Front. A thriller set in the Vatican about the succession of a new Pope and the secrets of the recently deceased Pope. Starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow
    • The Apprentice - Directed by Ali Abbasi. About the early career of Donald Trump and his relationship with Infamous attorney Roy Cohn. Sebastian Stan as young Trump, Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, and Maria Bakalova as Ivanka Trump. No distributor picked up yet, but they all agreed this is going to be a huge Cannes premiere.
    • Emmanuelle - French erotic drama and director Audrey Diwan's followup to 2021's Happening
    • Dune Part 2

Preliminary Oscar talk, a year out, for movies not released (or maybe even scheduled) yet, should be illegal.

I think paying attention to academy favorites and odds and shit is easily the most boring part of the Oscars. Is it just so when people are upset about a win you can go "it was a lock in September!"

I skip all The Big Picture episodes where it’s them talking Oscars like it’s sports. Absolutely useless to pontificate it about year-round.

Yeah, I feel like thinking about Oscars in a horse race, Super Bowl kinda way all year round is in the same realm as overly fixating on box office profits and franchise management, and unironically referring to things as "content." Film as a medium is dope as both entertainment and art, but the "content," sports season angles just flatten all meaning and value out of it, imo.

I like when people who make things I like find success insofar as it increases their odds of making more shit I like, but I zone out so hard when that becomes the focus, lol.

I enjoy predicting noms. But it's stupid to start before the other awards and critics start to roll in. Then it gets fun to play with the stats and historical trends. But you have to keep in mind the whole time that it's just fun and nobody knows anything. If you take it seriously and get mad about "snubs" it's stupid.

the Oscars are, for better or worse, history books for the medium (I guess mostly in the US) so to me it is kinda fun to think about what will be looked at in that way

Winning Academy Awards lets the person and their agent charge a bigger rate, so if you aren't in that group I don't know why you would be affected by the winner.
