The vocals are probably too up front on this for most people

Is that a Mike Kinsella thing? I'd never noticed it until you mentioned it

He does it on Owen records. The best part of lp 1 was that the vocals were buried and let you hear the music more on this they are way up front. Doesn't bother me too much but it's def part of the reason why people are comparing it to Owen

This is what I was wondering - I listen to Owen a lot and really enjoy his production style but didn't notice how prominent his vocals are in the mix

I've never listened to Owen.. so will this sound like an American Football album to me? haha

Idk this was exactly what I wanted.

I had been watching the live videos from all the reunion shows and this is what the old songs sound like live now too.. so I wanted a record like that and I got it. Wish there was more trumpet but I won't complain

Definitely worth listening to his discography. Pretty much everything he's released is excellent

When this happens I just listen to the album 3 or 4 more times and then the differences stand out more *shrug*

I got the CD today after resisting to listen to most of the songs, so this is just my first impression: I really like this. Pretty much the overall sound I expected, the Owen similarities are inevitable and seeing as I love all the Owen albums, I'm bound to enjoy this. The guitar and drum work particularly stands out to me, and the production is beautiful in my opinion. Slightly puzzled as to why some people seem to dislike this so much, although maybe some of that can be attributed to Mike's twitter comments? But either way, I'm just really happy this album exists.

It's way too late, or much too early Prestigious

Where Are We Now was my favorite until today. I think My Instincts Are My Enemy is my favorite. The guitar parts are just beautiful and the bridge is fantastic.

idk what's so puzzling about people not digging it, every one who said they didn't like it or were lukewarm on it gave reasons why. If you don't wanna go back and read why, shrug. If no one is chiming in reiterating their reasons, it's because most people don't like focusing on things they aren't fond of / aren't crazy about being called crazy for not liking something lol

I haven't returned to this much at all after the first listen, which kinda sucks since I preordered the record and all. Seismograph is fulfilling my fall music listening and everyone should check that album out!

I don't know what the kinda standoffish tone is all about from a couple of people in this thread, I was just trying to join the discussion (and also leave a positive comment about an album I like)... Like, I don't know how my post could even remotely be construed as me calling people crazy, but ok. Sorry if anything I said came across as douchey or whatever.

no fingers were being pointed, it was just a general stream of posts implying that it didn't make sense to dislike the album, even though the people who weren't smitten with it for the most part all provided well thought out reasons why the album was only on the decent to terrible range for them.
