fwiw, this is where I have been at for the past few months as a trans woman who will very much be in way worse of a position under a Trump admin (tho I think it is trending worse regardless of Trump, just that also think it would accelerate under him and embolden transphobia in our culture even more than it is now).

the things I have seen and read these past few months re: this issue have shaken me to my very core and changed me in fundamental ways as a human being. I talked a big game about not voting for Biden last go around, for admittedly much less dire reasons than what we’re faced with now, and yet I held my nose and voted for him in a last minute decision at the ballot anyway. I don’t think I can bring myself to do that now, the thought makes me genuinely sick to my stomach. he is an evil, evil fucker. and ultimately I believe he and the entire party he represents only use my rights as a bargaining chip rather than actually caring about them in a meaningful way, which is fucking insulting. feels difficult for me to justify shaming people to vote for Biden to protect me as a trans/queer person in america and ignore what he is doing re: Gaza to do so. right now it just does not feel like the time, and quite frankly comes off as tone deaf. and the argument that Trump would be worse for Palestinians, actually doesn’t make much sense to me right now because it doesn’t get worse than genocide. if Biden doesn’t significantly change his policy on Israel NOW (or really, months ago…), those people will be wiped off the map, I don’t think Trump is even a factor in that case because they will not even make it to a Trump term at this rate.

I understand the desperation people feel right now about this because I feel it too, I just think the people to blame are the ones in power/vying for power, not those unwilling to vote for them.

 

I think other groups of people may have the same thoughts about importer or whoever saying “what else are you doing to help people?” though. Like I think sometimes people saying that don’t realize it flows both ways. There’s lots of groups of people out there that are probably terrified of a Trump 2 admin and they’re seeing people saying “no it’s not worth voting because of Palestine, because even if you do vote, what else are doing to help all marginalized people?” and they’re thinking “well wait…you can’t even be bothered to vote to help out people like me, so…what else are YOU doing to help out people like me if you’re not voting to do so?”

I think this made sense lol

 

I completely understand people not voting for Biden for moral reasons. I don't believe not voting for him is an intrinsic vote for Trump. But I still think it's dumb to say, because things are bad, that they can't get demonstrably worse faster for large groups of people with Trump in office.
