Sweetness, My Sundown, Cautioners and If You Don't, Don't are my favourites on BA. I really like that album though, probably my second favourite after CTL.

Bleed American is neat the bottom half of the JEW album totem pole for me at this point. i hate saying that only because it sounds negative... but it isnt, its still one of the most influential albums ever for me (BA and Deja got me into music). but i dno, i just listen to a lot of other JEW albums a lot more now.

I'd take Futures, Chase This Light, Invented and Integrity Blues over Bleed American. It's still a great album though.

i listen to invented way more than most jimmy albums and its like in the middle of my list. how often i listen to something isnt always an indicator of how much i love it if im already really familiar with the album. aka rankings are useless

    fun fact about me

i used to think back in the day that there was no such thing as an album and artists just took 3 to 4 months writing their new single one at a time, unaware that theyre just on the album

I was playing the title track around my girlfriend and she asked if it was Nate Ruess and now I can totally hear that in some of the melodies when Jim goes higher

Hate to crap on Jim but I tend to prefer when he plays it safe vocally - he hasn't got near the range Nate does, few people do

One of Jim's better attempts singing that high was on Be Sensible

whats an example of jim not playing it safe and failing? i cant think of a single jim song where his vocals are subpar. hes got one of the strongest voices in rock music

I think Jim's at his best when he's belting honestly. One of the main reasons I like Get Right so much, I think he sounds great on that chorus.

I've seen multiple people mention "Dizzy" as the most vocally demanding song they have and it's also their best so..

I can't think of a particularly poor one, because he's a good singer and doesn't really have poor vocal performances, although I'm not at all a fan of his vocals in either Dizzy or Get Right. He just tends not to enunciate very clearly in his higher range, which can blur a lot of lyrics together. I'd hugely disagree that he's got one of the strongest voices in rock music - he's got a reliable range and a lot of their music lends itself to him belting it out, which is great, but his voice isn't overly powerful at all. Toe to toe with someone like Nate Ruess? It would be demonstrably not close.

I'd take the high notes in Dizzy over the high notes in Nothing Without Love any day. Usually love Nate's voice too, but man is it absolutely grating in that song

I don't think he's on the same level as Nate but I can count on one hand the amount of people that are on that level for me.

I think Jim's a great singer especially when he's belting in his higher range. I just can't see eye to eye with someone that doesn't love his vocals on Dizzy.

I feel like a lot of people when evaluating vocalists tend to conflate "ability to sing really high" with "strength as a vocalist."

Nate and Jim are both great vocalists, I tend to prefer Jim for his strength at emoting, but that's just me.

I think what initially drew me to JEW was the fact that I could sing almost every song. My range is pretty similar to Jim's, and I'd give Jim the edge because I've struggled belting out Sweetness before. I do not have one of the strongest voices in rock music.

By comparison, I've known people who've toured with Nate, and during his vocal warmups, the walls shook. Absolutely he can be grating and I'm not even sure I'd consider him a rock vocalist anymore, very pop, but the range and power he puts behind his voice is much, much different from Jim's.

agree. if youve got a great range that matters less to me than how you use it. nate's solo record is a fucking mess and is an example of how a range like that doesnt automatically translate to great vocals.
