I feel like there’s some bad takes in here but I’m too brain foggy to express it. But first and foremost, pretty sure the entire point of the book is “such a bad cataclysm literally alters history” haha

 

Man I haven’t read this book since high school, I’d completely forgotten how much fictionalized foreign policy stuff was in it. The wiki page on the book is a fun read if you’re bored. The part about Israel is … pretty charitable lol. They withdraw from the occupied territories, build a wall along the 1967 borders, and allow Palestinian refugees in.

Also, in the movie apparently the reason that the infected breach the wall is that the refugees who were let in were cheering and celebrating too loudly that they were saved and attract the infected, which feels pretty on the nose as a suggestion that being nice to refugees is the downfall of civilization haha

 

There uhhh… appears to be a very bad image out there on the internet

 

yeah I mean there’s lots of crazy outcomes in the book….russia becomes the holy Russian empire…pretty sure a country in Africa becomes like a paradise/haven etc…But people seem to be really upset at the idea that things like that would happen in the face of a zombie apocalypse haha. And definitely judging it on today’s politics. In 2004/5 when he wrote that, there was still a lot of people out there that had hope for a peaceful 2 state solution. And “hey we’re getting reports of zombies and we’re paranoid as fuck so we’re closing up shop now, Palestinians come on in if you’d like” probably didn’t seem very far fetched as a response to zombies back then hah
