Oh. My. God. Where?

 

A couple months ago there was a pretty substantial leak of unfinished/alternate versions/ideas from JVs vault. I'm not sure if this cut of 89 was in that group and the individual knew he had something special and put it up for group buy, or what..

But this is almost certainly a finished product, just not intended for release, and one of several existing versions.

Speaking as someone who has "New Song #2/89" tattooed on my forearm;

This cut is extremely good but... I'm not sure if it's because it was leaked under unfortunate circumstances or because no studio version could ever live up to the legend of that 2016 performance. But it just doesn't quite hit like I thought it would.

I feel like it needs the drums from the OG live version.

Still hasn't stopped me from listening to it 50+ times tho

Any leak of something so coveted is inherently unfortunate. You can tell by the file name alone it was certainly not meant to get out.

 

Knowing bon iver song titles, I don't think you can necessarily say that with 100% certainty.
