Moreso, I do not understand the trend.

 

I’m just surprised you’d admit it

 

It is the sound mixing, not the audience.

 

Sound mixing is poor. Actors mumble. ADD. I could go on. I don’t understand why this could possibly bother you

 

I do it for a few reasons. If I’m grading at the same time and miss a line, I can usually read it quickly enough. Plus modern sound mixing is ass. Plus a lot of times I put a movie on are after my wife’s gone to bed and I want to be considerate with the volume.

 

This is the article I refer people to regarding dialogue levels in movies/tv over the past decade. It's a fact that newer content is just harder to hear in general. I hate it, but that's why I turn on subs for everything these days.

Because my ADD won't let me concentrate on what's on screen when they're on. It's ugly and obnoxious. I'm not really mad. It's just an interesting trend I've noticed. I've never had an issue understand what's going on on screen. I don't think it's necessary to hear every single word someone says, I don't catch everything irl, but context clues are enough to follow along.

I’m also on team subtitles. I’ve had them on for everything for years. Strangely enough, I don’t watch subbed anime though, only dubbed.

I cannot watch anything dubbed. It takes me out of the movie/show. It’s so distractingly bad and over the top most of the time.

Also, I have been known to turn them off on friend's TVs when I visit.

 

To be clear, I only watch anime dubbed. If it’s live action, I watch in the original language
