Okay but that is not vibes, that is due to the material fact that the ownership class' views will be reflected in the media they own even if not via content mandates or explicit censorship then by a diffusive process in which the people who gain positions of power in those media organizations are both selected and self-select according to their ability to carry out "a system-supportive propaganda function." Some linguists wrote about this in the 80s I think

 

well I think the “vibes” thing was the idea that the media was creating the vibes everyone was feeling, no? That seems like it would line up with what you’re saying here—ownership class wants the vibes on Biden to be bad because they want tax cuts and less brown people

I guess you're right, I was thinking more with his whole vibe in mind which has involved him shitting on the idea that material conditions ever effect anything. Which I know is partly because he mostly gets the stupidest most annoying kind of online leftist that says material conditions and proletariat constantly in his replies. But he does seem to have a broader thesis about media that reflects that idealism that I very disagree with, I think the idea that media effecting public opinion/perception significantly is evidence of "vibes" and against "materialism" is very wrong

yeah I think one problem he and other folks trying to say the economy is “good” are doing is they’re forgetting the “but..”. A good economy doesnt mean everyone is doing good, that’s the whole point of trying to expand the social safety net, to help those folks that get left behind during good times and keep everyone afloat during bad. I get why he was saying it though because of all the “doomerism” that seemed to be ubiquitous, and he did blame online lefties for that a bunch too. But I always took his main thrust to be about how the media was feeding this “economy is bad everything is bad” doom loop that clearly wasn’t the reality anymore, thus creating the doomerism vibes. Either way it was pretty funny how the timing of it shifted a bit right when he went on his like 6 week tweet storm about it lmao

 

the second line is extra funny to me because its something i would say in an argument about ukraine if i was extremely fucked up
