It's not that kind of depressing though. It's like that sad happy feeling in good Pixar movies but for 6 seasons. It's a happy, nostalgia type sad about life and shit.

Good actors and loveable characters. You want characters with back story, how about legit their entire back story

  4. I didn't get a happy depressed Pixar feeling at all in the few episodes i watched with my wife... the whole time i was thinking "how is this what anyone wants to watch for entertainment?" it's got this really mellow sad undertone throughout the entirety of each episode that just feels so itchy to me. Makes me anxious just thinking about it right now. haha

Well because for the most part everything is lovely. The show has that balance of really happy moments and really sad moments. The mom and dad romance is your classic perfect love story.... the dad is super dad and is supposed to make you reflect on your parents... and all of the adults have excellent lives for the most part, but their dads death has given them unresolved trauma.

Its balanced between happy and sad. Everything is great and life has a lot of happy moments...but reminder, yeah you and everyone you know are going to die

LOL yea, not ever watching was a smart move for me. I lost two immediate family members by the time I was 18. I truly don’t need a show to remind me of death.

I mean, if you’re someone who hasn’t experienced traumatic losses, engaging with the topic is probably good for people. It could help them understand those who have. There can probably be some good takeaways.

I enjoyed This Is Us but I definitely feel like it was intentionally hitting as many emotional beats as it could

    adoption
    Racism
    Death of family members
    Addiction
    Poverty
    Body image issues
    Dementia
    PTSD

    etc etc

  21. Why would anyone get emotional from seeing someone else's dog play dead in a movie?

I also think a sad movie hits very different than 6 seasons of a sad tv show. So, I’m all in with you on that haha
