Dipped into the first Final Fantasy recently and want to slowly work my work through them all (by which time XVI might be out on PC...). Played a decent amount of OG 7, 9, and 10 but only ever completed 15.

Had to uninstall Crusader Kings 3 after picking it up over the weekend and already putting like 30 hours into it. Games like this gonna ruin my life

 

Apparently it’s going around that Xbox is still a thing and there’s two consoles coming, one Switch like and the other is more of an enthusiast, high end model.

 

Ehhh. I dunno if I believe TWO are coming.....the leaked slides already revealed the series X diskless model would be a midgen refresh. They'd get killed in the handheld space....switch and deck already own it.

What I am interested in knowing, is whatever happened to the Xbox streaming stick. That, I can see being a future. Costs a lot less than an actual console and would be simple to keep updated.

I guess if you had a handheld console you could download Game Pass games onto, as well as your existing Xbox library, I could see the appeal in it. To run current gen games though the price point would have to be pretty steep, and I'm not sure that's the way to go when they're already struggling with console sales.

 

Exactly. They're not in the space to experiment right now. From what I hear the series s is outperforming the x and to me that's worrisome as the series x is a really good machine and (I don't have a series s, just x) I assume the difference in graphics is leaps and bounds. They need to focus on the refresh model imo.

 

Mostly use my Series X and I agree, it's a great console. As much as I've enjoyed a lot of their output this generation, I really wish they'd release something that feels as monumental and polished as PlayStation's AAA games. As an Xbox user I'd love for them to use their time (seemingly) stepping back from direct competition with Sony to really focus their efforts on developing more ambitious games. My concern is that if they step back from hardware production their main driver will be spending more and more on acquiring third party games for Game Pass.

 

They said just a year or two ago that they shelved their streaming stick gaming device because they couldn't find a way to make it cheaper to produce. I don't know what would change in two years or so for them to suddenly want to shell out the same amount of money or more to develop and release a PlayStation Portal or a Switch like console.

Honestly I just hope they keep the consoles they have and go multiplatform with a good portion of their games. They already have streaming apps on Samsung TVs and I'm sure they're going to try to expand that market as well.

 

I've been a PS fan all of my life and this is my first xbox since the 360 and I really enjoy it. I'm a fan of both systems, of both parties offerings, I enjoy both outputs. I was a huge fan of their RPG output in the 360 days and although I don't think they'll get back to that, I think they have their own strengths. Avowed looks fantastic. Fable is my most anticipated title from them. I believe if they refocus on Halo they can get the fan base back. Going head to head with Sony isn't working, they need to focus on what they can do. Sony is killing it with the remasters/remakes. Hell, why cant MS dona Gears remake?

Also MS really needs to drop the GamePass requirement for FFXIV. Don't kill the opportunity for the game to have an audience BEFORE the game even comes out.

Yeah a MS handheld is such a weird idea. A competitor to rival the switch and deck I like the IDEA of but don't see it being profitable. It would cost a lot and people i think can put windows on their decks already? I dunno how the portal is doing but I've never been a fan of JUST a streaming handheld.

If they were able to put their apps on more TVs that would be really neat.

 

Some fucking dork on Twitter who is a nobody was mentioning how he lives next to and has friends at Ubisoft Montreal and they already have "the new Xbox kit for making video games". What does that even mean?

Gamers are the worst.

 

Was a PS kid and only got back to it last year when a friend gave me his old PS4 Slim. Whether it's just familiarity or the time I've invested in their ecosystem, I definitely spend the vast majority of my time using my Series X. The PS exclusives I have played have absolutely lived up to the hype though. If PS start porting their games to PC faster and Xbox do drop out of hardware production I'll likely switch to PC exclusively.

there’s definitely dev kits for what’s next but literally anyone can tell you that

I couldn't care less about what tech Microsoft comes out with next.

Switch 2 is the only new hardware that's important right now.
