Keep seeing people talk about Cody/Roman happening at Elimination Chamber as the best option, imagine having Roman lose the title on a PPV that starts at 1:30 in the morning

The problem with the cody martyr idea is that sadly I don't see this on the same level as Daniel bryan and batista. Its not the same scenario or story. Firstly, DB was way more over. Cody's over, no question, but its not on the same level as Daniel. Plus, Bryan didn't already lose at wreetlemania, and the story was the crowd wanting to see a guy like that, who busted his ass, get his opportunity at wrestlemnia. Cody got his opportunity and lost....and now doesn't even want to try a 2nd time lol.

Also, the rocks a bigger, more popular figure than batista by a huge country mile. The rock is a wrestlemania, main event player, and I really don't think enough casuals will turn on him

The Yes Chant was happening during college basketball games and shit. He elevated the entire product.

Also the Monster hype video is objectively one of the best WWE has put out in the modern era.

The issue with the Cody being a martyr idea is that, unlike Daniel Bryan, he wasn't kayfabe screwed out of anything. He just willingly gave it up and looks like an idiot. Also, that makes The Rock Batista in this scenario, and we all saw how that turned out.

No matter how big a celebrity and star The Rock is, they can't possibly be dumb enough to think that there wouldn't be discontent and some legitimate backlash to having him just walk over Rhodes, the most over babyface the company has had in more than a decade.

From a business perspective, it made sense to me that this was a panic move in response to Punk's injury and the Vince situation. The Rock, being entirely tone deaf and ego-driven, knighting himself the hero and using his new clout on the board to push Triple H out of the way to "save" WrestleMania. It was still dumb from a story-telling perspective, but it made sense in the real world.

This new January 3rd date, though, is bonkers. If that's true, then having Cody win the Rumble is all time idiotic booking buffoonery.

He is over but its not on the daniel Bryan level. Plus, the rock is a bigger star and more beloved than batista. I'm saying if the the wwe expects the same thing here...I don't see it.

i think Cody may be just as over as Bryan. the product was much fucking worse back then and Bryan was held down whereas Cody has (until Friday) been booked as literally unstoppable, there is no room for Cody to get that kind of reception because he wins every match he is in

Yeah, I think people are still underestimating how over Cody is. He's the biggest babyface in the company during a time where business is up across the board in virtually every way.

It's kind of hard to compare the two, really. Bryan was sort of the only guy universally over during that time period. There was so much discontent with the product and generally a lot of apathy toward so many acts on the show at the time. Business wasn't great, either.

Cody is universally over in a boom period with several hot acts and genuine investment across the product. He's in the John Cena role with the John Cena machine behind him and he's still not being rejected anywhere.

Bryan was mega over but he wasn’t the difference maker that Cody has been in terms of merchandise or ticket sales. Cody is legitimately the biggest draw since John Cena

As shitty as the story was, Bryan being rejected by the machine and willed into the main event by the fans works for his story. It doesn’t work for Cody’s

which is sorta the problem with this whole thing. The audience was ready for the guy WWE has been telling us to love to be crowned as the top guy and it still wasn’t enough. That’s why this is so bad. Fans were finally on board with the corporate plan and they still ripped it away

Yep, funny enough, Cody's story was actually way cleaner. Rather than the fans getting him over, he got himself over. Went to the indies and NJPW and ROH and started his own promotion and came back so big, so undeniable, that he had to be the guy. Literally go so big he put WWE's own bottom line in danger.

That he'd just step aside for The Rock is about as nonsensical a story as it would have been if D-Bry stayed with the Wyatt Family and the Wyatt Family joined The Authority. Just a complete character betrayal.

Cody is so over that the crowd cheered for him to win the rumble over a returning CM Punk. They're booing The Rock because he took his spot. I just dont know any human gets more over than that.

Crazy lineup. I miss those type of tournaments in the indies, they were so fun. When you look at early TPI and BOTB cards the cards are insane. Some of the ones from 20 years ago are run back on AEW here and there.
