I’m down 9% body fat from Jan 2, 2023. I forgot to track more regularly, so the huge jump from 26% to 17% really illuminated how hard I worked for consistent nutrition last year.

Two marathons this year for my running goals. Getting back to my strength now that I’ve fixed range of motion on my lifts.

Gonna do 50 minutes of treadmill today. Last time I did 48 minutes, 15 incline, 3.54 miles. Probably not much in serious runner terms but my personal best lol

Down to 215 lbs, down 8 over about 6 weeks

  5. Been sick for the past six weeks or so and haven't done anything but did a ride today and it was so rough. Not even a tough ride. Depressing how quick you can lose progress. Hope the opposite is true and my body adjusts back to a normal routine quickly.

Happy new year. May your protein shakes be abundant and your squat racks empty

This year is going to be a tricky one for me since I wanna maintain my strength as much as possible while also losing like 30-40 lbs so I can just feel better about myself and how I look. I'm the strongest I've ever been and I know I'm bound to lose at least some muscle which will be discouraging when I can't squat or bench as much as I usually do. Really need to work on my cardio/respiratory health too so Im thinking I'll start incorporating HIIT/tabata rows into my routine again to help with that. 10-15 min of low effort on the stair climber just isn't cutting it anymore.

I did a 30 min Barre workout today and my glutes were burning by the end with zero weights involved. Very humbled.

Is this your first time trying to lose that much weight?

I think its just a bit more than what I've done in the past. I lost 30ish lbs maybe like 5 years ago doing a keto diet. Im also the heaviest I've ever been rn since I've been deliberately bulking and putting on a combo of fat/muscle. Gaining strength has been my main goal in the gym for a while now. So its tough to say how much I actually should lose to hit a healthy maintenance weight since I've added muscle mass.

Yeah that can be tricky to estimate at the outset. It's usually just kind of a "lose until you like how you look" sort of thing haha.

I asked because - in my experience - the fear of losing muscle mass on a properly managed deficit is overstated. If you're eating well and training intelligently, you really shouldn't be losing noticeable amounts of actual muscle mass. You're going to lose water, glycogen, and fat, so your muscles are going to look smaller, and you're going to probably have less ability to express strength in terms of 1RMs or something, but it's unlikely that your actual muscle loss is going to be significant.

In fact, one thing you might like is to try new movements and variations while you're losing weight. Everything's going to be a PR, you can start low and LP it for a long time, it'll round you out better, and it'll overall make the experience a lot more enjoyable. Just a thought.

Regardless, best of luck! Your goal to improve your work capacity is admirable too; that'll really help things in the long run.

I've been doing heather robertson's 12 week workout series on YouTube cause why not? I've done her videos a lot but never followed along with her programs before. It's actually been kinda fun and it's varied and has gotten me back into using my dumbbells more and back into the routine of strength work. I was in a cardio rut for a while, and then my gym has been shut down for months and the weather is awful, so this is nice cause I can do it from home. And I find I'm not whining before excercising cause I'm getting back into the routine of it and look forward to it. We'll see if I finish the whole thing tho!

I just wish she talked along about form. But she does post about the form for her workouts on instagram. I just like real time reminders.

I'm down 8 pounds since January 1st thanks largely to dry January, and maintaining a running streak of at least 1 mile a day since NYE. I plan to continue the running streak for at least 6 weeks and we'll see after that.

I also need to get back in the habit of getting out for a walk in the afternoon to get some movement in later in the day and just to clear my head and get away from work/my computer for at least 20-30 minutes.

Yeah, I’m down 7-8 pounds through January mostly through 10K Steps a day and cutting out fried food and most sugar. Feeling good so far. I’m much less hungry than i was before i cut those things out too, which is cool.

Ugh I feel opposite. Between my gym being shut down forever and the rainy/icy/dark weather the last few weeks I feel so sedentary. I wanna be back in my routine!
