Corporate managerial culture is a cult

 

My last job was fully remote, minus a once a month office day. They wanted people in person for a team meeting. It was by far the least productive day of each month.

The company tried to do all office days “after” Covid. But after many requests they allowed remote work again and said they would see how it impacted business. They found that they made more money and more tasks were completed on time during the new remote work period, so they made it permanent.

 

Before I just recently quit my place was doing quarterly layoffs widdling down the workforce with eventual plans to consolidate departments and move us back to the office as a minimized workforce. They also outsourced 60% of my department's work to a third party contractor in Mexico.

 

Our job just did a round of layoffs on Monday. They accidentally sent out the separation agreement emails at noon. People who received them panicked and were told by HR it was a system error, before those same folks received invites to one on one Zoom calls at the end of the day to let them go.

We're a subsidiary of one of the biggest tech companies in the country

 

In Google Calendar there is a way you can look at your coworkers calendars. So once word got around about layoffs everyone who had a meeting scheduled with HR that was either off that day or shift hadn't started yet were already tipped off by people.

 

My large company was bought by a larger company in April and they started just reassigning people with no rhyme or reason just to get people to quit so they don’t have to offer severance. Legit completely changing hours people work for no reason. Randomly switching people to different departments that they’ve never worked in. They’re moving this one lady that does the job of like 4 people and once she leaves shit is going to fall apart quickly.

 

One pathetic corporate-cucked thing I saw in the aftermath of layoffs is the sympathy the manager who does the firing gets from people under them. "I feel for how hard that must of been for you to do that" and "they deserve praise for how much professionalism and grace they handled such a difficult uncomfortable task" was common things I heard. People talking about their manager that just fired their friends like they're A Sin Eater or something. Disgusting.

 

Honestly thought it was way more than a 9-day delay. I figured it was closer to a month.
