I worked at a small locally owned restaurant for a couple years as a bus boy and it wasn’t too bad for us. They only paid us $3.50 or something like that an hour because we’d also get tipped out by the servers.

I don’t know what is more true: That Republicans always wanted to go back to child labor or that Republicans are so against immigration and paying fair wages that they rather bring back child labor than make life easier for people.

I was a shy 15-year-old with zero confidence. I was petrified to ask for a break, let alone ask one of the cooks to make me something.

Just found out our district is closed tomorrow due to the insane amount of rain and high winds that have knocked out power in a bunch of places here. Dont think I’ve ever gotten off work for just rain before

My second job was working for a grocery store for 2 years. Best job I ever had but got fired two weeks before leaving for college because myself (and many others) were stealing boatloads of alcohol from the storage rooms for over a year.

The pizza place I worked at when I was like 19 did not give a shit about giving out food, I’d make small pizzas every night before we closed the kitchen and take them home. I’d go in on my off days and make a pizza or a sandwich and go hang out with my friends

As someone working in the restaurant industry going on six years I would never, ever work for a mom and pop restaurant. Corporate places have way more structure and protection for their workers against exploitation

I worked at a local family owned pizza place in high school and when I was home for breaks while I went to college and they were the absolute best to work for. I got paid under the table and they would increase my pay every year, after I think 3 years I was making $15/hour. Super lax people and they let me take as many pizza slices as I wanted before I went home. The best was when the pandemic first started and people were tipping like crazy

I worked at regal and ate food all the time there even though you weren’t supposed to. I stole like 200 packs of promotional pokemon cards when the detective pikachu movie came out lol

Now that I think about it I've never worked for a big corporation or company directly besides American Eagle. Biggest was when I worked as a sub, the local school districts all contracted out to a temp company that is worth like 5 billion, but even then it wasn't like they were deciding my work environment or rules or even pay tbh, that was all based on state law and districts and schools.

When I was doing the cotton candy/funnel cake/lemonade/beer vending job at sports events at various places, that contractor is also decently big, regional. They treated us pretty good, usually gave us 10-12% commission on our sales and we got tons of tips depending on the venue. I worked the Belmont Stakes the year Big Brown was going for the Triple Crown and made like $900 for roughly 6 hours of work, and I did it on like an hour and a half of sleep lol. They figured out our sales and paid us our commission in cash under the able right there. Most of the other places I vended beer, i.e. Ravens games, Eagles games, Union games, The Preakness, etc we'd get the commission later in a paycheck. Slinging cotton candy at the Blue Rocks games was my best and favorite job ever.

Other jobs have been local restuarant or country clubs. The country club job was pretty damn sweet. Second favorite job. At the restaurant we could take steak fries throughout the night, or if a order was cancelled/not picked up we could eat from that, but otherwise it was just half off food. Also got half off from the pub at the country club, and both the pro and some of the club members would bring us food/snacks a few times a month.

I worked at Starbucks in high school and would always take the leftover food at the end of a shift even though we weren’t supposed too. They would always say for legal reasons we had to throw it out, but Jesus Christ those muffins weren’t gonna go bad they second it turned 7pm. One of my coworkers filled a whole bag of muffins once but then forgot it on one of the tables and our manager flipped out on us lol.

I stole over 1k worth of product from my last job in Seattle lol. They treated their employees like shit during the pandemic and got bailed out by PPP loans that were forgiven so I don't feel bad
