I notice only 4 contributors credited on this list. That's a reduction from previous years, right? I'm wondering if that's what I'm noticing here. The longer contributor list allowing for a bit more variety in the top 30. I remember spending a ton of time just looking at the individual lists of half dozen(more?) contributing writers.

  3. Yep, working on it.

  4. I believe there were MANY contributors to this list including myself, those are just the four that also published their individual lists.

  5. Stats are at the bottom:
Our final compiled list was put together using our ranking algorithm. There were 8 contributors and 154 unique albums across all of the lists. In total, 37 albums out of the 154 were on more than one list, with the number one album appearing on 6 of the 8 lists.

Yooooo, Craig this album rules so far! Hooked from track one. I needed this today and can always count on you!

Fun fact: the only reason I miss having a Twitter account is interacting with you on music things. Hahah.

Hell yeah, glad you're enjoying it! Feels like the kind of album that should be huge on this site, but they're a little known band and it dropped in December, so it's an easy kind of release to overlook. I hope some people check it out from this thread or my list!

I'm still trudging through the wasteland of Twitter, but man, it's gone way downhill. I don't blame you or anyone else for jumping ship.

I may agree with you, given more time with it. I ended up dropping it at number 30 on my list because I only heard it in the last week of the year, but I'm excited to give it more spins, especially as we get closer to summer.

Haha, I figured since I already had blurbs for a whole lot of these. Did have to edit a few of them, though, since my writing for my own list almost always skews more personal.

Shout out to @Jason Tate for putting Taylor Acorn on your list. That EP was so great and really surprised me.

    This is my top ten:

Dispirited Spirits - The Redshift Blues
Caroline Rose -The Art of Forgetting
    Samia -Honey
Manchester Orchestra -The Valley of Vision
Hot Mulligan -Why Would I Watch
    Andy Shauf - Norm
    Petey - USA
JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown - Scaring The Hoes
    Wednesday - Rat Saw God
    All Get Out - S/T

Lots of other great records, but I don't need to share a list of 50, lots of them have been shared anyway. Also shout out to The Dear Hunter's Migrant Returned, Thrice's The Artist in the Ambulance - Revisited and Bad Books II: Revisited. All great versions of albums I've loved for a long time.

Want to mention again in hopes that anyone sees it, please check out Dispirited Spirits, that album absolutely blew me away this year. Considering that I bought one of the 50 limited cassettes six months ago and they are still in stock, he definitely could use some more people appreciating his music. Written, performed, mixed and mastered by just one guy. It's really good.

  22. Loved seeing some familiar names all across this list! I did enjoy both the Fall Out Boy record and Taking Back Sunday a ton (and completely agree that those are some of the best of their respective careers), but they didn’t make my top ton. Mines actually suuuuuper different this year from ya’ll, with Paramore (I think) being the only commonalty.

Did people just not listen to " Trophy Eyes - Suicide & Sunshine" for some reason I'm not aware of? From the moment I heard the first few singles leading up to the album drop I felt it would be special and I wasn't disappointed.

"Sean" is perhaps the most heartbreakingly raw song released by anyone in 2023. "Kill" features a baseline that hits hard and sets a vibe from second one of the track and leads into one of the more memorable chorus's I've heard all year. "What Hurts the Most" has a somehow simultaneously calm but energetic and powerful chorus while the track probes deep into a brotherhood type friendship in a nostalgic way that hits the feels if anyone has a former best friend they don't know anymore.

This record is gold. Listen to it. It has to be the most underrated and overlooked release of the year. "Life in Slow Motion" is another incredible single that is driven by powerful vocals and lyrics and "People Like You" is just one of the more unique tracks released this year by a band like this and it slaps. "Sweet Soft Sound" serves as a stray ray of sunshine in a pretty dark album. This is a walk down the aisle worthy love ballad with softly delivered lyrics like "I see the meaning of life in your eyes, it's like swimming in the ocean at night." "Stay Here" would function as a perfect closer on most records with a heart wrenching outpouring of helplessness that ends with the anti-suicide message, "if you go now you'll only pass on your pain, stay here" only to be followed by the actual perfect album closer "epilogue".

I'm going to keep screaming from the rooftops about this album. It's that good.

One side note off the topic of Trophy Eyes...the most memorable line of 2023 will easily go down as "OLAY OLAY OLAY OLAY". I'd bet it all on this being true in 10 years.
