^^ definitely would like to second this. To add, it's also reductive in that it implies that women have worth because of our relationship(s) to men, rather than being inherently worth respect/decent treatment on our own. Which still comes back to "you should be nice to people because they're people and people are worth respecting, not just because that person is someone's wife/daughter/etc."

On a completely different note, my dad's a really vocal Trump supporter. I haven't talked to him since the leaked tape/etc and don't know if that's changed his mind at all. Tonight I'm headed down to stay with my parents for a couple days, and if he even tries to make an excuse for those comments, it's not gonna be a pretty discussion.

Hey everyone. I really need some advice right now about a work related issue.

    Trigger warning

One of my female employees had come in to work about a month ago with a black eye. I had met her boyfriend in the past and at the time I didn't want to assume the worst, but I had a feeling that he was an abuser. Well, here we are a month later and she comes in with another bruise. I sent her a text with the Employee Assistance Program phone numbers and email address along with a line that reads, "please call." I was afraid to put too much in writing because I didn't want him to see it. I've never been around such an obvious case of abuse and I really don't know how to handle it. She's also 7 months pregnant.. I want to talk to her, but I don't know what's appropriate and what's not. Any help would be highly appreciated.

@ChrisCantWrite let her know you care for her well being, and that there is help for her. She needs the support.

Unfortunately there is only so much you can do, but I believe you did the right thing with the text. I'm glad you're there for her at all. We have so few people who really give a shit about much nowadays, let alone other people.

Wouldn't shock me if some Apple employees were regularly going through customer devices. There was a picture on my sister's laptop of her sitting behind a big sleepy dude in tiny shorts on an AmTrak, and it sort of went viral years ago even though she'd never uploaded it or shared it with anyone. Just showed up online like two days after she left her MacBook with the Apple Store. Maybe a coincidence but I've still always felt weird handing my stuff over to them since.

Oh man, that's miserable. I'm sure my dad supports Trump but I haven't seen him in a few months and don't plan to see him again until the election is over so hopefully we never have to discuss politics.

Is there any good reading regarding Hillary's record of attitude towards and treatment of Bill's victims?

"But what precisely is it about stories by women and people of color, stories in which civilization is built and rebuilt by humans of all shapes and flavor working together, that throws water on the exposed wires of masculine pride? It’s all about how humans cope when their core beliefs are threatened. As Frantz Fanon wrote, “When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn’t fit in with the core belief.” Core beliefs are the ur-myths essential to the way we understand our lives, our identities, our place in the world. For example: “It is right and natural for men to hold most of the offices of power in society.” For example: “Male violence plays a vital role in society, and you can adapt to it, but you can’t resist it.” For example: “Feminism has gone too far.”

So I know it's not the intention of the movement, but every time I see the "Grab Back" initiative with regard to fighting against Trumpian physical harassment, I think of this.

So I'm assuming you've read the accounts of women who have been assaulted or raped by Bill Clinton. They're disturbing but I think necessary in order to put her responses into context. But a couple of articles that outline her attitude towards the victims:

I don't know about this. I feel like the vast majority of women using misogynistic language on Twitter are reclaiming it. I've seen women calling themselves and each other sluts/whores outside of sexual context and sort of more in jest than anything else. How can they analyze a large enough number of tweets and also analyze context? How many of the tweets analyzed came from pornbots that look like a woman's account? What about the growing community of sex workers on Twitter who may be using these words to advertise their content? The article itself said to take the study with a grain of salt but idk I'm taking like a whole tablespoon
