pit beef sandwiches overall mid imo. It pretends to be BBQ but is nowhere near as good as actual southern barbecue, it pretends to be an elite casual/sloppy take-out sandwich but it’s not that either

i think its ok for a beef to be a beef. i dont think its trying to be something its not. are there better options in the USA? sure. are there worse? see arbys.

Actually there is one that’s good, Maryland style shrimp salad sandwiches are legit.

& to be fair to New England, the lobster roll is a top 5 sandwich on the planet

 

I might have my New Yorker card revoked for saying this but I think both Jewish deli subs and Italian deli subs are generally garbage. All those meats are way too salty to be enjoyable

If you’re gonna hate it that’s a legit reason. I love my salty ass sandwiches with sauerkraut and corned beef / with salami, prosciutto and red wine vinegar

I thought I would hate shrimp salad until I tried it. It’s not nearly as mayo-y as it looks, if they make it right it tastes spiced and the shrimp flavor still comes out really strong

cold, seasoned & cooked shrimp on a sandwich hits the spot in such a specific way, nothing really like it

& it doesn’t have a name but a lot of Maryland/Baltimore pubs will do a seafood club sandwich that has a layer of crab cake and a layer of shrimp salad, with a white cheese, bacon lettuce and tomato. That shit RULES

 

I've also cut back a bunch of the amount of red/cured meat I eat. I'd much rather have a sandwich with all different kinds of veggies being at the forefront and grilled chicken or something

 

thats basically a cheat code though. You can put a medium rare Texas ribeye between bread and call that a “sandwich” but it’s really just the meat by itself that’s good hahaha. Sandwich rankings are about blending several flavors together imo. Texas is a great BBQ place, Maryland is a great seafood / crab place, not necessarily great sandwich places just cause they put the seafood/BBQ on bread sometimes haha

I actually usually prefer my Maryland crab cake with a fork and not on a sandwich, but it definitely helps that legit MD crab cakes aren’t mushy and they at least hold together on bread

We got this place in Colorado in the last year and their sandwiches are insane. There's too many different subs to choose from so it's overwhelming but they're my favorite sandwich spot by far
