On me first listen so far, 4 tracks in. "It Matters" really got to me.

I wish I saw in Copeland what everyone else sees in Copeland.

Anyway, this album is definitely going to go down as Jimmy Eat World's Worship & Tribute

It's incredible how few reviews are out there for this album. Either that, or I suck at Google.

I can finally comment on this... but I don't even know how to.

This is truly something special. I loved when someone said it's incredible that after 20+ years they can still reinvent themselves, but I think the thing that's really amazing is that they can reinvent themselves while still strongly maintaining elements of their roots. I feel like in most cases, a long-lasting band either puts out 10 records that sound exactly the same and never grow, therefore resulting in a boring and uninspired catalog.. or they end up putting out 10 records and the last 7 are entirely different and alienated their fan base. The thing that sticks out to me on this record is that I was really surprised that some of these songs came from Jimmy Eat World, but at the same time in the back of my head I was smiling thinking.. "wow, this is SO Jimmy Eat World." Not many bands can be so characteristically different but familiar at the same time.

I really love how much they pushed themselves on this record. It sounds so inspired; a fresh take on the sound they perfected 12 years ago.

Just my initial thoughts because these songs are so good I don't even know where to start commenting on them. But "The End Is Beautiful" hit me SO hard.

I was taped up to fight, I had my speech ready
Then like only you can, you stole the air out from me
You said, "However you go, I'll be cheering you on
In the end, what's the difference how it all went wrong?"
    Hey, that's something
The truth is what you believe it is

    Chills.

Copeland are magic. This band is magic. Let's all just be thankful we have both.

Also I got very scared for a second at the end of "Pol Roger." I was like "please don't tell me they are ending this album on a fade out!!!!" but luckily that turned out not to be the case haha

Pass the Baby and My Enemy get better with each listen. Pretty Grids is probably my least favorite but that bridge is amazing.

Wow. Love this album so far. The only thing I'd change is I feel that Integrity Blues would make a great closer.

The best part of Pretty Grids is the verses. It's a great track all around though.

Man, I feel like I haven't been on here at all. Anyway I still need to listen to this album lots more to have a fully formed opinion, but it's gonna rank highly, probably top 3. Don't know if I said this already but the first two prerelease songs are my least favorite, they really saved the best for later. Also, Pol Roger doesn't blow me away, it seems kinda too familiar or something but I can't put my finger on it.

Decent review but he has some bad remarks about CTL, damage, and deja

    HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT.

Must be JEW's goddamn lucky day. Pitchfork gave a positive review.

There's plenty of great writing on pitchfork tbh. They just get a bad rep (deservedly so in some cases, not deservedly in others) for the more over the top negative ones. Fantanbro has never made a good review video in his life

Hmm. I usually like Ian's writing but didn't love all of that review. It's funny though, he mentioned some of the melodies of "Sure & Certain" being reminiscent of CHVRCHES... I have thought the same thing since I first heard it I've just never said anything because I thought nobody else would agree lol

Like I thought the review was fine when he was talking about the album itself, but every time he started talking about past JEW releases it was just dumb. Invented and Chase This Light especially need to get the credit they deserve. Those albums are incredible, I don't know why some people are acting like "this is the best JEW album we've got in years" - as in they've put out duds for a while. Naaaah this band doesn't put out duds. Clarity forward, every record is ace.
