Yeah, the whole story is messed up. He could be hacking absolutely anybody. I get that he has his own things, but what set him against game companies in the first place?

Also, the hackers who leaked all the Insomniac data are actual scum because they wanted a ransom and they leaked personal information of the studio. That's super fucking awful. Very much wishing those people a long time in hell.

 

As someone who works in cybersecurity I’m endlessly fascinated by how he pulled it off using a fire stick.

 

How so?

 

I just spend a lot of time thinking about various attack surfaces and like, in this case it didn’t take any fancy software or equipment. Dude just sent some phishing emails from his phone, got some unsuspecting employee’s vpn credentials and was able to run a basic command line shell from a fire stick because it runs a (probably unpatched) version of Android.

The amount of vulnerabilities in our world of internet connected devices is vast and no matter what we do to protect ourselves it can be undone by some kid in a hotel room with not even a laptop, it’s wild.

I also find it interesting how susceptible people are to social engineering. It’s such an insidious act and still manages to reap major benefits.

The most head smacking on desk thing I was at work was someone replying to a phishing sms message asking for their two factor code with the actual code…

Any of y'all play Slay the Princess yet? I've heard some good things and even though the discount isn't huge on Steam, I'm thinking of picking it up.

 

I haven't played it yet, but I did buy it, because it seems delightfully creepy and fun.

I'm not sure they were system sellers. They definitely were critical darlings. I'm just not sure how much that translates to sales. Back then more so than now probably though.

That being said, it sucks either way.

I won a PS4 Peo late in that cycle and definitely immediately got Gravity Rush 2. Didn’t finish it, but it was cool while it lasted.

 

I agree with this. I think Japan Studio was great for interesting critically-acclaimed cult classics that made for great space fillers in Sony's library between the bigger-budget titles. They also helped other studios a lot with their own works, like the Wild Arms series.

Not sure what I’m gonna start next. Might do new game plus for Alan Wake 2 or start something else. Was itching to play a Souls game, maybe I’ll do Lords of the Fallen or Dark Souls 2
