For those who have had their wisdom teeth pulled, did anyone have their regular dentist do it or where they referred to an oral surgeon?

Still have my bottom wisdom teeth and they’re started to bother my molars — it bothers me when I chew and why I went to a dentist today. But it seems like they plan to do it and I feel unsure about how normal that is. My top ones were pulled by a surgeon.

My parents set it up for me because I was like 17/18 at the time but I know it was an oral surgeon. My regular dentist referred us to someone else for it, it may be because mine had not yet broken through and they just recommended getting it done. I’d assume because they knew it would probably crowd my back teeth. My sisters were the same.

My experience was really good though. I couldn’t even tell at the time my top ones at been taken out and the bottom healed quickly. Did not get the dry socket that can sometimes happen either.

Didnt know if it was normal for a dentist to perform it or if I should get a second opinion.

 

Assuming they’re already broken through (I’m sure they are at this point lol), I think it would be fine for the dentist to pull them. But understand if you want to get another opinion.

 

my dentist did mine cause they weren’t bad. I just got some laughing gas and they yanked em. I was so high I was ready to yank em myself.

 

Had an oral surgeon do all mine. Did it on New Year's Eve because I'm built different.

 

Yeah they’ve been broken through for decades lol. They just are angled toward my back molar which can be an issue. Others expressed concern the dentist was going to do it and I’m trying to see if it’s really that uncommon.

don’t really care who does it just that it’s done right.

It probably wouldn’t hurt to get a consult if that’s the case. They could at least tell you if they needed to do more than just pull them. If they’re angled awkwardly they may need to take them out in pieces rather than pulling the whole thing.
