Trying to pick my next "big" fantasy read next year that isn't Stormlight Archive is tough!

Do you have time to discuss our lord and savior Hadrian Marlowe? It (Sun Eater) is a sci-fi series but it's heart is fully fantasy. Book 6 out in April and book 7 (final book) is in progress. Also 3 really good novellas, and 3 short story collections. Plenty to read!

Please ignore if you've already read it!

A fellow Sun Eater fan! Unfortunately (well, fortunately for me) I have read it. I can’t wait for the rest of the books. I actually got Dregs of Empire today!

Excellent! We may have even chatted about it in here previously haha. I'm still waiting to order my Dregs of Empire & Other Stories from Anderida and also waiting on the audiobook. Might just give in and read my kindle copy :crylaugh:

Yessssss! And they keep getting better. It’s a truly unique ride and I’m so happy you loved it. Carl and Donut are the best.

I’m taking a manga break to get into Discworld. I did some research on good starting points and I’m starting Guards! Guards! cause it’s the start of the city watch sub series. It being labeled a comedy series has always turned me off of it, but I hear there’s good characters and world building, so I’ll at least give one book a try.

  10. I'm taking a book break to get back into manga :crylaugh: Catching up on Chainsaw Man and just started JJK, which I'm surprised to be enjoying

I read part one of Chainsaw Man (about 100 chapters) and the artwork in it is insane. I read a chunk of JJK and didn’t care for it. The characters are cool, but the power system makes no sense and the battles are hard to follow. The anime is a lot better and is visually stunning.

actually getting through stuff! sure, it's stuff on the shorter side (in a genre when 500 pages is short) but back in the groove at least. golden son done - continuing to have a good time with it. both have been enjoyable, twisty rides so far, series is getting better as it expands on the world.

switched things up over to more classic fantasy, of blood and fire/the fall. this is what i was really in the mood for - some good ol' kids of a small village swept up in a larger scheme, elves, dragons, dwarves. you know, the good shit. my focus for now, maybe break back to finish out the first RR trilogy after book 2 here.

Finished The Unholy Consult today. Man the ending of this series was wild and I don't think I fully understand. Definitely leaves it open to more

ok sure I'll jump on the completion train! finished Harpist in the Wind, which wraps up the Riddle-Master of Hed trilogy. These books were recommended as a bit of a breather from Malazan, but it introduced me to an author that I now want to read everything they've ever written

she said fourth wing was aggressively "ok" and that iron flame is "one of the worst books i've ever read" and I was like "you're selling this to me terribly"

haha yeah I've heard Iron Flame is even worse. I'll get around to it eventually but that's not a ringing endorsement for an already low bar

I bought Fourth Wing in an Audible deal out of curiosity on the hype. I suspect I'll only read Iron Flame if I can log into my friend's Audible. If I tapped out on an actually well written romantasy in ACOTAR, I don't see this going well.
