I'm not dismissing anything other than the incorrect notion that he's been historically efficient.

 

Hes been historically efficient for the volume. Like I’m not sure how else to put this to you lol, no one else is as good at attacking the rim as he is, that’s why the volume is so high cause he’s still pulling off 60% field goals with it despite every team selling out to stop him from doing that

 

He's had rare volume, he hasn't been historically efficient at it. There's no other way to put it because it is not correct. 66.7% from that close is not some crazy number. No one else attacks the rim as often*. Doesn't mean they aren't as good.

the stats influence each other. The more you do it the less efficient you’re gonna be cause you’re getting a lot more defensive attention when you attack the rim. The fact that he’s still 66.7% even though it’s entirely obvious that’s what he’s gonna do the whole game is absurd.

 

I mean that’s like saying Shaun Alexander’s 27 touchdown season wasn’t that impressive because most of those were 1-2 yard goal line carries and he got forced the ball in short yardage. Other RBs can’t even BE forced the ball enough to score 27 TDs cause they aren’t as good at it! The team would literally shoot themselves in the foot calling that that much with another RB, they’d be forced to adjust. No one has been able to force Zion to change that approach

You are correct. The more you do something, the less efficient you will be. That's why Zion, who does this more than almost anyone, is not doing it with great efficiency.

 

In terms of offense? Sure I guess. Overall though? No way.

 

I’m not saying he’s the greatest, tons of teams have crazy good players that are good at things Zion isn’t… I’m merely commenting on his best skill.

Anyone else who tried to drive to the net THAT OFTEN would be WAYYYY below 66%, it’s just the relationship between the two numbers should be affecting his efficiency far more than it is

You’re skipping that whole thing and just saying 66% isn’t that good in general, but that’s not factoring in how much his volume should be dragging that number down. Of course 66% isn’t that good when you only drive to the net 5 times a game. Totally different when we’re talking 12. Being top 3 in FG percentage among team-leading players is really good

It’s relatively high for how much he’s doing it.

I’m sure some guys shoot higher 3pt percentage than Steph with way less volume too. Doesn’t matter nearly as much without the volume being factored in.
