Fuck I am so hyped for non book readers to see Blood and Cheese

 

Yeah it’s definitely the most shocking moment of the storylines in that book!

 

What's even crazier is how unexpected it is. Usually big events are saved for the last or next to last episode.......and this will most likely be in episode 1 or 2 so something that big is gonna shock for sure.

Like everybody I am excited to see Blood and Cheese, but honestly more excited for The Battle of the Gullet and the Blacks retaking of King's Landing that happens right after that. If my guess on the pacing is right that should be where the season ends.

End Of season 2 would be the perfect place for it too, as its basically would give GoT 2x9 Blackwater vibes.

 

Watching S1 for the first time. Is the decision to make house Valaryon black something GRRM did or something the show added?

cause it definitely adds a whole extra layer to the succession discussion. But also it’s weird that race itself is never brought up. So was it done by the show to make the audience connect better with the society importance of preserving the bloodline?

 

In the world GRRM built, people of Valyrian descent are usually described as being white with silver/gold/white hair, and House Valaryon themselves are described as white at least one time IIRC. That being said, Old Valyria was basically a stand in for Ancient Rome/Greece, who obviously had conquered lands full of folks with not so pale skin (and were Mediterranean peoples so probably not so pale themselves), and especially being "Roman" was more about citizenship than bloodlines at a certain point. So just because GRRM had never mentioned black Valyrian folks before, doesn't mean they couldn't have existed.

At the end of the day though I think they were just more cognizant of the complaints about GOT being not too diverse, especially in it's main characters, and figured making House Valaryon black was an easy way to remedy that since we never saw them on screen in GOT and thus had no reason to just assume they were white.

 

It also adds an extra layer to certain issues that will arise later in the season as you will see haha
