The same amount of time has passed between now and when that album was released, as when Abba and Steve Miller band were topping the charts in 1974 was to 1999.

The rock we listened to in the late 90's is as old or older now than what we considered Classic Rock in the late 90's.

This was always gonna be a possible consequence of a weakened America, so it's mostly a question if if you can stomach it/if you think it's better than the alternative.

Wild how successful 9/11 was in accomplishing bin Laden's goals. The war in Afghanistan (and Iraq) really just crushed American tolerance for war and trust in our country's govt to use the military for any good purpose (obviously that trust had already been eroding for decades since Vietnam, but there were still more true believers than that through the 90's IMO), especially one that would take years or decades. Like, I barely want to support Ukraine even though morally it seems pretty much the right thing to do. Same with Armenia and Palestine. I'd much rather just cut the military budget in half instead. Idk how much of that attitude is shaped by my own personal beliefs that I would have established anyway vs. how much it was shaped by watching the quagmire that was Afghanistan and Iraq.

I hate to sound alarmist, in history you can't go 100 years so without like a big climactic boiling over point where the balance of power and global status quo quickly and dramatically changes with multiple regional conflicts converging simultaneously. I can't help but feel like we are on the precipice of a moment like that.

I hate using the term " world war 3 " because the term World War is a 20th century invention. There has been 8 or 9 major moments like that have occurred in modern post-feudal history. The next one is just an inevitably, that just how the cycle of history works under capitalism.

It has been interesting to see some folks use the term "Pax Americana" and think about that and what it means/what happens as it ends hah

Can they legally do this if the voters approved the measure with specific language? This seems super fucked up.

I don’t recall my parents or their friends being annoyed by their music being called classic rock. Maybe we are soft!

The initiative amends the constitution so probably not. But the GOP also has full control of the Ohio Supreme Court so who the hell knows. Will be interesting to see how it plays out because it does both seem like it’ll lead to legal challenges and it will piss people off about the lack of democracy in this state and people need to be more pissed off about that

    Thirty Years War 1618 - 1648
    Nine Years War 1688 - 1687
    War of Spanish Succession 1701 - 1714
    War of Austrian Succession 1740 - 1748
    Seven Years War 1754 -1763
The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars 1792 -1815
    First World War 1914 - 1918
    Second World War 1939 - 1945

You also have some historians that would argue that the Cold War and War on Terror count too.

There was also a period in the 1850's - 1870's where the Crimean war, German/Italian unification wars, and a shit ton of brutal civil wars and internal uprising were happening all around the world too.

The Taiping Rebellion in China between 1850 -:1864 killed just as many people as WW2 and severely weakened Chinese power and influence in the east where they didn't start to fully bounce back until honestly just couple decades ago.

Shit the emo stuff we loved in the early 2000's is as old now as like Joy Division, Devo, The Talking Heads, or The Smiths was to us then.

Once music venues started operating again, bands are doing 20th anniversary tours of those albums we grew up with
