I mean get right is aready an outlier as it is plus there's through

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Damn you're right I totally forgot that was you but now I remember. Did you ever do a remix of a track or something? I'm sure I had a "Metallikunt version" of a song on my computer at some point. Maybe I'm making that up as I only have a vague memory.

I wish Get Right wasn't an outlier. Would have liked more songs with that vibe. Personally I wouldn't mind having My Enemy as track 3, pushing It Matters to track 4, and then maybe either getting rid of Pretty Grids or swapping it with The End Is Beautiful. I feel like It Matters brings a bit of a dip in tempo a little too soon in the album, despite that it's a great song. I might change my mind on that opinion though.

In tradition of this wonderful thread, I am fully expecting AOTY rankings before the end of December

    That's awesome.

At the end of the day it's all splitting hairs anyway I think.

I am feeling what Minty is saying here, only I wouldn't take any songs away, just slide My Enemy in. 12 songs is fine.

I think this may be the only Jimmy Eat World album where I love all of the songs and don't see one or two with a major dip in quality.

Listened to this all day. Fucking love it.

I'm in love with the ordinary

Yeah that was me haha. I made a very crappy mash up of Lying Dressed and Closer. It was so bad! Still wish we could get all of those demos in high quality at some point along with Jen on CD!

Pretty bold of you to admit to liking Jen :P

JK but if you remember it was the running joke / unanimous fact on the JEW board that Jen is the worst song the band ever wrote.

Oh I know haha. Still want it on CD though. I didn't mind it.

I always thought it was strange that there are the versions where they add Jen to the track list of Futures and then bump up the track number of the subsequent songs, seeing as how that is probably the weakest JEW b-side ever and literally every other b-side from that session is miles ahead of that one.

"Jen" would be the best song written by at least 90% of non-JEW bands.

at first I was going to disagree with that, then I really thought about every single band on the earth... And yeah, Jen probably would be the best song for 90% of them

lol I like "Jen" - it's a punchy track, but certainly not one of JEWs greatest songs. It was a smart move to remove it from Futures, though I used to have the leaked copy where it was sandwiched in the middle of the album.

I'm surprised Jen was actually in press copies. After hearing Shame I figured that one would be more likely.

Upon further inspection from me, the obvious music professional, Through is the greatest song of all time.

I think Jen is one of their worst songs and I'm thankful it's not on the record

I agree wholeheartedly with this... However, I think "Shame", "Sparkle" and "When I Want" are better than 3 of the songs on the back half of the album.

I would not change anything about this album, nor would I change anything about Futures. Those two records are both just about perfect for me. Even the songs I like less just work so well in context.

  23. Listened to this four times today having only heard one song previously. Really enjoyed it. Haven't been into the last few Jimmy releases but they went outside the box a little bit on some of this stuff and it's just enough to totally refresh them for me. Only song I'm pretty lukewarm on is The End Is Beautiful.

That drum beat early on in Sure And Certain gets me so hyped haha. The transition into that chorus isn't very good but the chorus itself is soooo catchy to me

I wish I felt this way about Futures. I remember playing the album for the first time back when it came out, and song after song was just absolutely incredible - I thought it was a masterpiece. But then it goes completely off the rails for me and never fully recovers. The difference is so drastic to me. I can't think of another album where this happens so markedly. I have tried several times over the years to give the three songs a chance and just listen to the album as it's meant to be but I simply do not enjoy them at all.
