If you read the comments their thesis about Punk here is fucking insane. Pretty much saying "the establishment does social justice, Punk is supposed to be anti-establishment, therefore supporting social justice isn't punk."

All the commenters: Punk, especially Britpunk has always been this. Go read any Crass lyrics from 40 years ago. WTF are you talking about?

That post just reminds me of all my old crust punk friends from high school who now are 35 year old conservatives who love Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson while still liking the same antfascist punk bands they liked when they were 15., and they do not get the irony or contradiction at all. No joke a couple of years ago I had a friend bitch to me about Antifa while wearing a Choking Victim shirt.

 

lol the community note aside, you’re reading this thinking like oh he’s gonna hype it up so he can ridicule China for not controlling it or Biden for letting it get here or not being tough on China for fucking this up or etc, but then it gets to the end and is like “yeah whatever we do, let’s not do anything about this!”

 

Its certainly telling who views "Punk is anti-establishment" as axiomatic. Like normal people who would tell you punk is anti-establishment could tell you why its anti-establishment (the establishment tends to prop up all the things like bigotry, racism, classism... that punk opposes). But then you get the people who think that punk is anti-establishment simply because its the establishment without any other reason.

These tend to be the same people who complain about punk becoming "too safe" when what they really mean is "no longer safe for abusers to get away with their shit"

 

Every once in a while I fall down the internet rabbit hole and re-discover that one of the last kings to rule Great Britain before it was united by the Normans/William the conquerer was named Cnut.

 

Literally the same logic the singer of Skillet had been using to rag on Rage Against The Machine for supporting masks and vaccines for Covid.

This whole idea that if you're anti-establishment, then you can never support anything they do, ever, no matter what it is, even if it's logically and morally correct. Real brain worm energy.

 

If not being racist is establishment thinking now, which would be a stretch, the punk thing to do wouldn’t be to switch sides into being racist. It’d be to push further into more radical thought against the establishment.

These people have baby brains, they’re treating being against structural discrimination and control like a light switch that’s either on or off, as opposed to an ongoing power struggle.
