This kind of thing is why rabid fans of mainstream artists scare the shit out of me. I’d much rather be in a beatdown hardcore pit where part of the show etiquette is that you might get punched in the face than be stuck in a crowd of thousands of people with zero concept of concert etiquette at all (plus probably main character syndrome and a parasocial relationship with the artist).

to this day the worst show I’ve ever been to was Fall Out Boy playing a Jingle Jam in a small room with Dua Lipa opening. There were multiple fights, someone got taken away in an ambulance, I saw blood on the ground, and the whole time I had a girl digging her nails into my arm and trying to peel me away from my spot so she could be one step closer to the band.

I like that idea where it’s random people get selected for entry into ga or something like that someone did for their tour

it was so no one would camp for days like weirdos do

So much about the "relationship" many fans have with some of these artists makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Because so much of it is centered on themselves and their role/status in the fan community. @Rmourz nailed it with the "main character syndrome" and "parasocial relationship" piece.

I'm not sure if anyone caught it, but there was a piece recently about how there's a group of Swifties who are frustrated with her "greed" due to the increasing number of limited release vinyl variants. Of course, when you actually look at what people are saying, the issue isn't that they think she's greedy... They're just upset they can't afford to purchase everything she releases. And it's all focused on themselves, rather than saying "nah, I'm good with the version of the album I have; let somebody else get a chance to snag a copy."

This culture of "I need to be front row or I'm less of a fan" is so unhealthy. It stresses me out just watching it from afar.

There are people in this very thread who throw the same temper tantrums every time an in-demand show is not "fairly" priced.

It's not bootlicking, it's pointing out that the idea of a "fair" price for a high demand luxury item is just something that no one can define.

Artists get paid shit through streaming so if you want to support your favorite artists the only other options are going to shows and buying merch but when tickets are so expensive because of Ticketmaster or AXS or whoever’s fees after a more often than not already pricey base price and merch cuts meaning artists don’t actually get that much money (along with merch being expensive because of venues taking a cut)…yeah I understand the complaints.

False equivalency. Wanting to attend a single concert is very different than complaining because you feel you're entitled to own every vinyl variant and merch item an artist releases... And you're upset that others are able to.

I get somebody being frustrated that they can't afford a $500 concert ticket. But you really lose me if you're griping about an artist releasing a 20th variant of an album and you're upset because you feel you have to buy it simply because it's being released... And when if you can't get a copy you flip a shit. Completely different things.

I understand that sentiment. However, for concerts to happen, OTHER entities need to be paid aside from the band in order to incentivize them to have a show in the first place. Promoter needs to theoretically make a profit, venue (if not owned by promoter) needs to be incentivized to rent it out vs doing another kind of event, band needs to pay their crew/merch people. Tickets need to just be a flat price with all fees included which, initially, will be a sticker shock to people but that will take away the sour taste of an advertised price and then being surprised by the 30-40% increase at checkout.

Additionally, bands/promoters need to be UPFRONT with what tickets will cost (and maybe include estimated premium/dynamic increases) so people can plan accordingly as opposed to this BS panic buying that people have to engage in nowadays.

I suppose it's not a 1:1 but it's along the lines of "a non-essential item I want is priced outside of what I am willing to pay and that's not fair!" type mentality which I've never been able to identify with.

The most offensive part about ticket prices is acts like Noah Kahan, Zach Bryan, etc that are charging Taylor/Beyonce prices for shows that will have maybe 1/16th the production.
