Dammit Drew, you got me interested in like 5-10 of those records but I really need to cool it seeing as I just had to drop $400 on minor/routine maintenance for one car after dropping $900 on new tires for the other car last week.

Speaking of selling vinyl, how easy is it to get your collection cataloged on discogs? Is it as simple as entering the UPC or do you still have to sort through all the different variants?

 

You can use the app and scan the barcode but you’ll need to pick the variant. Variants usually have the same barcode as others, sometimes even the same catalogue number. It’s a big job depending on your collection if you’ve never done it before but at least then it’s done and you just update with each new delivery.

 

Ah, gotcha, thanks. I don't even know how big my collection is, kinda scared to find out if I'm being honest, but it would be nice to have it cataloged and would make it easier if/when I decide to sell anything.

 

Honestly, if selling is what your end goal is, I would just look up what you are selling on Discogs and price accordingly elsewhere.

I don't really sell my vinyl on Discogs. I have sold more on Mercari or Depop. I use Discogs mostly for having my stuff cataloged and I will make purchases on there every now and then, but I found getting setup as a seller on there to be a little clunky and annoying. I think I have listed two albums on Discogs and sold one.

 

Yeah, I don't necessarily mean selling on discogs, but I feel like it's the only real service for maintaining a personal catalog and with easy access to what things are being sold for. And if I'm going to look stuff up anyway I might as well catalog my collection.

If I'm being honest I could probably part with a decent chunk of my collection without caring too much and could pare it down to all-time favorites and the discogs of some of my favorite artists.

 

is there a barcode scanner for books and dvds?

Has Days Away Mapping An Invisible World ever been pressed? The album got brought up in the Early November thread and i’d like to submit it as a late entry into last week’s discussion.

 

It has not. This is something I could see Field Day or Near Mint doing, if they can get the rights off FBR. They should do the EPs as well.
