I’d kill for a Mercedes/Hayter program. That’s the kind of feud that can be a main event for AEW.

I wonder if in an alternative universe where Punk never goes to AEW, does he still eventually come back to WWE? Maybe it still would have been in 2023 or maybe it would have been 2021/2022 on the same AEW timeline, but I also wonder how much of this is spite for how his time at AEW ended.

Maybe Trips had to pay him a bit more (or maybe they saved money because of his meltdowns), maybe Punk was less hostile about a return because now he hates Tony/AEW more than Vince lol

Hard to remember how mad something made you when it’s almost a decade ago and something more recently pissed you off i suppose

Would kind of prefer to see Punk in a manager role vs weekly wrestler or even specialty gimmick / big PPV wrestler - maybe something like Sting with Darby. But don’t make it a stable, the E has too many of those going right now. Put Punk with some younger folks that shouldn’t have a mic (yet) and he can still be a draw and help bring up the next generation.

But god knows what he agreed to with Trips.

I dont see it. Without AEW existing, there's absolutely a 0% chance. AEW being around forced WWE to step their game up and rethink things (and ultimately push Vince out)...all of which were needed to CM Punk to come back.

Think he needed to have the creative flexibility he got in AEW (and WWE would never give) to get the passion back...and then the spite of being fired to decide to chance WWE again

I mean, without AEW, I'd have given up on wrestling entirely during the pandemic. WWE was so played out at that point creatively.

I'm gonna be controversial, unpopular opinion. I think i hate the war games gimmick...or at the very least it's not as great as people make it out to be. I hate the fact no one can be eliminated and nothing substantial can really happen until everyone is in.

Essentially I thought the ppv was kinda boring until the main event.

Last year it was the perfect gimmick for Bloodline vs. This year, the traditional Survivor Series match would have made a lot more sense for the men. And honestly, for the women too...Bayley being the last member of DMG CTL remaining, getting 2 eliminations, but ultimately losing has a stronger effect for the eventual turn than her just eating a finisher salad.

I know Mercedes still isn't healed and has her commitments, but the story right now is/was setup perfectly to have a 4HW reunion.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

All it took for WWE to get remotely watchable again was actual competition. AEW existing is good for wrestlers, and viewers. I know the hot thing to do is just shit on it and spew the ratings talk from Twitter, but it’s genuinely a good thing it’s around for everyone. Hopefully this pushes Tony to improve the product, which has been extremely solid lately.

Out of curiosity, is Punk the first former WWE person who went to AEW and now back to WWE?

And was Jade ever previously with WWE or is she the first AEW “original” to go to WWE?

I was thinking about it yesterday but it’s such an illogical match. It’s not worth the 5 min or whatever arbitrary time they choose that night to have an “advantage”. Now if they could be eliminated then that advantage makes 100% sense.
