What is happening in this thread?

Also, this movie was mid, at best, with pretty unforgivable flaws in the writing department. I get not wanting convos on this forum to be super negative, but this movie, to me, was an early warning sign that Marvel had lost the controls and was trying to make puzzle pieces fit where they didn't fit. There are worse Marvel movies, before and since, but none that (IMO) betray their characters quite as much as this one does. Definitely the movie where I fell out of love with the MCU.

I liked Dr. Strange 2 and thought it was interesting and decent despite its flaws with the storytelling

Can I point out something I think is funny without everyone getting mad?

For the sake of discussing movies, it isn’t healthy for all bad reviews of a movie to be taken as “negative.”

Someone can share what they found to be bad about a film without others taking offense towards it. No one here was involved with the writing so none of it should be taken personal.

I did happen to rewatch the Illuminati scenes a few days ago and found them to be more enjoyable than I remembered.

Borderline goofy on the delivery but enjoyable. Something that would have worked better if it was wasn’t in the middle of this movie.

I’m on the mostly enjoy this side. There’s worse MCU movies. But Secret Wars will probably be better without Michael Waldron

Due to the ambition of Secret Wars I think Marvel should hire writers who have experience with juggling so many characters (McFeely/Markus).

Whoever is hired needs to picked soon so they have time. IIRC, McFeely/Markus started their Infinity War/Endgame treatments in late 2015.

I’m assuming you saw the rumor that Markus & McFeely have been consultants for the MCU for a little while now? Wouldn’t doubt if they’re announced to just be straight up writing it. My ideal creative team would be them co-writing with Benson & Moorhead with the latter directing as well.

It's just the way it's presented. I'm really not trying to start an argument or a long discussion about it.

Then again, I wasn't trying to start an argument with the last comment I made either. I was just making a passing remark for my own amusement.

The irony to me is that everyone wants to post an opinion without anyone commenting on it at all, no matter how harmless the comment may have been intended.

I am also aware that by wanting to post a quip without anyone getting on my case about it, I'm equally guilty of this behavior.

The moral of this story is that no one should talk to anyone, ever.

I think there's a difference between being negative towards others and negative about a film.

I absolutely love this film but I'm still interested in hearing why others seem to think it's bad even if I disagree.

I want to use this post to clarify something.

Believe it or not, I am actually okay with people not liking something and discussing what they dislike.

I do think people can get very abrasive and leave no room for discussion in their articulation, and that's what ends up rubbing me the wrong way.

But not every comment I make is an extension of this. Many times I'm legitimately only commenting on something I find amusing, or as a way to try to avoid arguing by making light of it instead.

It's not meant to discourage people from commenting. I may not like what's being said, but I'm not telling anyone not to say something. Worst case I might only be implying there's a better way to say something, but most times I'm just trying to turn an uncomfortable comment into something funny.

I'm actually annoyed that last night turned into a conversation, as I fully intended to just make my remark and move on, but you know, comedy is tricky.

I don’t even think what I said was that negative. I don’t hate this movie, and I even said there have been worse Marvel movies, but the bad taste of this one has lingered with me more than, say, Eternals or Thor 4 because of HOW I think it fails. What happens with Wanda is, I think, a huge disservice to the way that character was developed leading into this movie, and is a result of Marvel biting off more than it could chew with the TV shows and there not being enough communication or cohesion between all those projects. And I think those issues have become the (widely acknowledged) Achilles heel of the franchise since.

I can hardly disagree with you on this since I made the exact same point a couple pages back, although I still enjoyed the film very much regardless.

Actually, didn't Raimi go on record as not having watched WandaVision? Which if true, was a huge mistake. If you're going to be part of a huge interconnected franchise, you should go all the way and play ball, or what's even the point?

I can't entirely blame Raimi though, because there should've been people overseeing the overall project and keeping things in line.

I wish they had leaned more into the Darkhold being responsible and gave Wanda an out to keep her character development intact, because as it is, it feels like a missed opportunity.

It makes me think of comic books and how each new writer exists to undo everything the last writer did because they want to play with the toys the way they want to instead of being respectful of the character's growth.

I feel like the film did enough to show she was being manipulated but using her already damaged mental state to break her more easily than it probably normally would have. Plus I loved seeing Wanda going on a maniacal rampage so I'm fine with the diversion. I like that the MCU is like the comics in the way the characters can be very different depending on who's writing them and what project they're in.

I haven’t heard of that rumor. It would help if they knew the directors and could start collaborating

You're the first person I've heard this from.

I've heard so many arguments and gripes over the years about characters being written incorrectly and contrary to prior depictions, and how so-and-so doesn't get so-and-so.

I think at least for the films, continuity should be held to a higher standard, especially as people gravitate toward and follow specific characters.

I can totally see how some people might have been disappointed with how Scarlet Witch was interpreted in DS2.
