Bought a ticket to When We Were Young this morning with the sole intent of seeing Saosin perform the self-titled with Cove.

Why yes, I am unwell, why do you ask? lol

 

The fuck is going on with Cove?! Have people been watching the clips from recent gigs? His vocals are better than I ever remember them. This is like Tom pre-blink breakup and reunion tour.

I guess after getting kicked out for poor vocal performance, he’s decided to be more serious about his vocals now that he has an opportunity for a second chance

 

This seems kind of harsh. Wasn't the reason for his vocals because of the strain it was putting on his voice? I think I read that somewhere.

Anyway, it seems like a stretch to imply that he wasn't serious before.

 

When they kicked him out in 2010, the band said his vocals and on-stage performances were a part of the reasons why they moved on from him. Justin specifically spoke about how Cove picked up smoking, seemingly after touring on the S/T, and wasn’t taking care of his voice

Yeah, sounds like it really hit him hard at the time, and even then he recognized the problem, so I can only assume he worked on cleaning himself up.

 

I believe it was only spoken about on the Saoboard and never got too much traction, but I did a quick google search and a couple websites/forums have shared what Justin said on the Saosin forum:

 

He did a two-episode interview on Shane Told’s podcast about much of his time in the band. Didn’t really cover the ISOSG era, but did cover everything beforehand and it sounds like there was definitely some shit between Cove and the band, specifically one member (unnamed, won’t speculate, but I have a guess), that was going on throughout Cove’s entire tenure with the band. Worth a listen if you haven’t done so already

 

Funny seeing Justin say that above Cove and then not super long after he was kicked out of Sao too.

No one was ever specifically named. Cove just said that someone in the band made a disrespectful/hurtful comment about him at the end of the S/T touring cycle and no one else in the band stood up for him. I have my guess, but it wouldn’t actually be based on anything relevant to that situation.

 

Or maybe, Saosin acted like a bunch of fucking assholes to a kid that had no clue what he was getting himself into.

At 19-20 years old, I can only imagine the pressure he felt & how he probably didn’t feel like he could be himself. And the band didn’t help that. Every time I read about how they treated him, I can’t believe he made it as long as he did.

he seems a lot more grounded in who he is now.

 

I mean, both things can be true

 

I did hear a lot of stories about them and how they treated the people who tried out after Cove left. Though to their credit Tilian was one of those people and fuck him.

 

Sure, from what I’ve understood Cove could have done things differently, but again, he was 19 years old.

I like Saosin, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they have had a rotating cast of singers for their entire career.

 

I agree. I do think there has been a ton of drama in that band. I also think that Cove bit off way more than he could chew by trying out for a band that was blowing up and he was, like, fresh out of high school with no significant band experience. The band has to own that too for moving forward with and I’m not saying how they treated him is right or justified.

The whole situation with the band and Cove is not black and white, one party did wrong and the other didn’t. I think they both played a significant role in what transpired over time.

 

It's two..... Two singers

 

It was more than two? Tillian worked with the band for a while, which is well documented and I know at that time there seemed to be rumors of folks working with them. They just never made any records with any of them.
