Hip drop tackle definitely causes inadvertent ankle and knee injuries because it twists the guy’s leg at a different angle than their body’s momentum is moving, and because it’s very easy for the defender to land on that joint with all their weight. It’s kind of impossible to tackle a guy and have him fall straight down at a good angle that way.

however, it’s also impossible to litigate without removing one of the only ways smaller guys can tackle bigger guys without risking the even worse collateral damage of helmet to helmet contact

one of those things where it’s just like “yeah, football is an injury prone sport, there’s only so much you can try to change that before you ruin the sport” and reducing head injuries should absolutely take priority
