Making the argument of “white people over-praise this (somehow objectively?) not-good band, and it’s out of white guilt because the singer is black” is a particularly funny argument to make when your example is Bloc Party, a band that has one (1) actually great album, and then a bunch of stuff that even most fans would agree ranges from “good-not-great” to “outright terrible” lol

Luckily I don't trust the opinions of anyone who uses the term "mid" seriously

  14. also re-reading that tweet made me realize really the only time i will call a large group of (not literal children) people “kids” is at a relatively small punk show. they’re hardcore kids! even if they’re 30! it’s just how it is

I feel guilty admitting it but it is nevertheless true: I'm too old for moshing shows. I was seeing Armor for Sleep and shenanigans broke out and I just sighed deeply.

  17. i never liked doing the swinging moshing but when ur just jumping around bumping into people i can still have a lot of fun. either way my favorite spot since i started going to local shows at like 14 has always been the edge of the pit, bump into me and i’ll shove u back in that’s the perfect level of involuntary contact for me

I think I'm still jaded from the years I was doing lights/sound for a local metal band and every show had HxC guys just deliberately looking to start fights and targeting girls trying to stay outside the fray. I'm just always head on a swivel waiting for that to happen when moshing starts.

Apropos of nothing but loosely related:

I was once blamed for starting a brawl at a benefit metal concert because they put me on to open and "of course there will be a fight when you have some [redacted slur] covering Whitney Houston and Paramore with an acoustic guitar."

I saw darkest hour when I was like 15/16 and some dude jumped off the stage feet first and landed square on my back when I tried to duck. Knocked the wind out of me and fucked my back up. Never went near a pit again.

I saw Parquet Courts in 2022 and when they played the more mellow “Marathon of Anger,” the kids in the mosh pit didn’t know how to react for a second, but they quickly turned it into a dance circle

Oh hey I did lights for said metal band when they opened for BedLight. Sadly with the second singer, who wasn't remotely as good.
