    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Wonder if that was part of the contract

If they got AFI for sing the sorrow...or Paramore for riot...

Now id be sold. Id love to see a few bands that don't do album shows normally.

Still don't understand how/why the east coast doesn't have a true version of this, or at least something like Riot Fest if we can't get WWWY

    Things have changed.

Pretty simple: Vegas is a destination. East Rutherford or some other god forsaken place they'd put it on the east coast is not.

  6. Adjacent is pretty close and was a great time

Yeah but there's a lottttt of people out here that grew up on that music or in that scene considering Jersey and nearby Long Island was like ground zero for a lot of it haha. So many people who can't travel that far for that amount of time and etc.

Yeah true, that was a decent lineup, not quite WWWY levels but good. We possibly woulda went but I had already gotten tickets to Blink in Hershey which was the same night as night 1 of that, and then night 2 blink was the headliner lol

Fair, but the demo is clearly former emo kids who now presumably have jobs and PTO. I think Vegas is the perfect place for something like this. It's also a much easier sell for the bands.

Vegas being a destination is part of it's appeal; so many of these artists play 2 well attended/sold out shows every year in the Boston/NYC/Philly markets that giving up one of those for a fest spot probably wouldn't be worth it. Pretty much anyone would take a paid trip to Vegas, especially when your own show probably wouldn't do as well there. And they get to see/hang out with a ton of bands they love, it being in Vegas is a win all around.

But if they did it on the east coast, people would def still go. Adjacent was sick last year, I have very few complaints & REALLY hope they do it again. I made a similar comment in the Adjacent thread about the lineup last year being pretty heavy on "local" artists ↓

Great point about most of these artists drawing particularly well on the east coast but beyond that... Vegas has the benefit of being in the city.

Speaking only for Boston? There's no spot directly in the city where a festival of this size could be held that would allow it. Boston Calling is the arguable counterpoint but... That festival gets by on the top three lines of the poster so there's a limited number of stages. And I just don't see Harvard University being like, "Fuck yeah, throw an emo fest on our lawn!" LOL

You could do it outside of the city but when you do that you lose the advantage of having it in the area at all, TBH. If LiveNation swooped in and had the will to do something, assume it might not do so hot in year #1 but could pick-up steam it could happen but other than that...

But New York City is a destination city. They could host a festival on Randall's Island or Flushing Meadow Park

It's not a destination city in the same way that Vegas is. When people think Vegas they think about gambling and shows. It's entertainment-focused and feels a bit more casual?

Tourism to NYC always feels more focused on dining, Broadway, maybe like a trip to a comedy club, museums, the zoos, etc. It's just a different vibe. So it's a destination city but definitely not in the same way.

Philly throws the "Made In america" festival in the city which gets similar attendance AFAIK

I can see them going regional once the bubble pops. Like this scene nostalgia wave isn’t forever, once they see tickets not moving they’ll do regional fests to get the people who never traveled to one

I was listening to the bay area alt station this morning and was mostly WWWY style bands being played, five years ago it would be mostly Foo Fighters and Seven Nation Army.

I heard Misery Business by Paramore; Gives You Hell by AAR (hate that song); American Idiot by GD, and then Puddle of Mudd (which I thought was 30StM haha, and Radiohead.

TBH, when I asked this I was expecting you to say My Chemical Romance, Rise Against, and 30StM. Haha. But yeah. That sounds like a playlist shift to me with the Paramore and the AAR...

I remember begging my parents to let me go to Skate & Surf in 2002 but because it was happening just before I was about to turn 18 and they'd have to pay for my hotel... I got a solid "hell naw." Haha.

it'd be wild to walk it back to "OK yeah some album songs but also others!" after the announcement was literally written out like:

    band name: album title

do people not flock to chicago every year for Riot Fest?

A festival like this theoretically COULD work in NYC but prices would be much higher since the cost would be much higher. I think part of the reason they do it in Vegas is hotels may subsidize part of it due to the guarnateed room stays, looser regulations, cheaper labor, etc. NYC even doing it on Randalls Island there's definitely a fair amount of coordination, palms to grease, etc. Not to mention Randalls is kind of a hassle to get to for 50k people or so.

I don't know if Riot would last long if they brought back 3/4 of the same lineup every 2 years.
