We reach for the longest shadow

People who cherry pick off albums and NEVER listen to full albums, only shuffle playlists of songs they like are like, an entirely different species to me, haha. I'm not mad, it's fascination. Like, you never give a song a chance to grow on you? You do a 10 second fast forward through a song to see if you like it?

Not getting Rise Against to do Siren or Sufferer is a missed opportunity here.

I'd be fine if it did come back. It wasn't better or worse either way. I had no issues either year with moving around and seeing what I wanted to see. The tent actually would have been nice this past year as it was so hot but other than that, I didn't miss it.

Some questionable album choices for me... No idea why the used isn't doing self titled. Also not my favorite coheed album or my favorite Emery album.

  6. 2024 is the 20th anniversary of In Love and Death. So I'm assuming that's why. Also, it's fucked up that it's already 20 years old.

I get it. I really had no idea I was in the minority in this and thought that the used were a failure after their first album. I can't think of a band that for me, died off harder. I'm always surprised to see them touring and releasing music and having fervent fans. I thought it was a common held opinion that the first album slapped then everything post was thumbs down.

"All That I've Got" is probably my favorite song by The Used. It was a decently popular hit too I believe.

    Since '06

I remember In Love and Death getting a big push. I watched them play songs from the album on tv - probably Fuse. The dropoff came with the next album

Self titled is far and away their best and completely a flash-in-the-pan album.... But there's a lot of good stuff that came after

I guesssss, if you were deep in the high school dyed black hair/Hot Topic/My Chemical Romance generation. I feel like The Used and My Chem were pretty equal in popularity around that time.

    Funny story:
I have a friend who once was renting a room in Jeph's house (The Used's bassist), and one time I went over there to hang out and My Chemical Romance's road gear was all over the living room, like they were storing stuff there temporarily. One of the road cases was being used as a coffee table haha.

As far as The Used goes, Self-titled was that lightning-in-a-bottle album for them, then "In Love and Death" took some of that and refined it further. As irthesteve said, there were a lot of good songs on the following albums. For instance, "Shallow Believer" was one of the best b-sides compilations I've heard, and the first three albums could've been better had they swapped out some of the album tracks for what was considered b-sides by them.

I’m similar. When In Love and Death came out everyone was gushing over it and I thought they were crazy. Tried but couldn’t get into it and they totally fell off my radar. Looking it up I’m shocked how many albums they have and have never broken up

My memory tells me The Used got popular sooner (without checking dates...) but My Chem took off with I'm Not Okay and really never looked back. Don't think The Used ever topped In Love In Death in popularity.

  20. Yeah, I just remember The Used/My Chem "Under Pressure" cover being huge within that scene because both bands were really popular at that particular time.

Easier to not break up when you kick out most of the members for no reason tbh.
