I have a terrible memory and idk if it's from COVID, my mental illnesses, or smoking weed daily for over a decade

Oof, yep I definitely identify with this ever since getting chronic Lyme in 2nd grade.

I hate that there are so many in the medical community who won't acknowledge Lyme as a chronic illness. Insurance companies tell doctors to treat the symptoms, but don't address the cause. The bacteria are corkscrew-like spirochetes like syphilis that screw and burrow into tissue where they can lay dormant for long stretches of time. Brain biopsies have found the spirochetes present. People can get debilitating symptoms that could even leave them catatonic and wheelchair bound, or develop neurological and mental illness that has them committed to mental institutions. It's just such a shit show. My family went bankrupt having to find a specialist that was uncovered by insurance.

Long covid reminds me of chronic Lyme in many ways, such as causing POTS

Feel this, hate to say it though, its wild how much my memory came back after stopping smoking weed. Think it helps my ADHD meds are actually working now that I have stopped the weed. Don't have these sometimes 3-5 daily moments of forgetting what I was thinking and then spiral of trying to remember it, some of those lasting hours.

Yeah, Adderall was a life changing med for my ADD. Unfortunately I have a very high resting HR and bp, and Ritalin and Adderall ramps that up so I'm currently untreated. Suuuucks hahaha. But yeah, I should quit weed. I've tapered down quite a bit though, just a single hit of a pen maybe three days a week at this point. I used to smoke an ounce weekly

This is a very good point. But is it worth not being able to read a tweet that says "I've seen enough. Sen. Cruz is dead as a result of a duel this afternoon."?

Just kidding, totally enough masculine bullshit.

I’m depressed and smoke weed every day but I remember absolutely everything so it’s probably covid lol, I’ve never had that

Fellow chronic Lyme sufferer here. There are a ton of similarities between Lyme and long Covid. A lot of researchers think that the mechanism is the same for both diseases, where the body goes into overdrive to fight off an illness and then gets kind of stuck in that mode permanently.

The good news is that Covid has accelerated research into Lyme, CFS/ME and other poorly understood chronic diseases. Hopefully something good will come from it.

I had lymes but they caught it quick and I just took antibiotics for 3 weeks and haven't had any issues since that I'm aware of at least

That's the way to do it. 3-4 weeks of antibiotics if caught early. Unfortunately most doctors won't diagnose and treat it unless you have a bullseye rash, which is extremely rare. Glad you found a doc that knew what the fuck they were doing, it's crazy how hesitant some are even though they'll prescribe long term antibiotics to teens for acne

This is why I recently stopped smoking as well. I was tired of having the forgetful-in-the-moment episodes daily and realized this was the culprit. I'm ADHD unmedicated too, but I keep a pretty good grip on it. Haven't had weed since Halloween, and my memory improvements have been significant. I'll smoke again at some point, but I'm enjoying the way I feel for now.

yeah I didn’t have a rash but they did a blood test and I had to take these giant antibiotics 3 times a day for 3 weeks. And it was an NP so NP > Doctors.

Totally agree, my NP is who diagnosed me too, 10 years after symptoms started. When my parents moved my paperwork to her from my old doctor, we found medical notes from 2nd grade saying "could this be from tick bite?" And they never tested me

It was wild when I figured out what it was, I have had some concussion issues from just life and playing football for years in middle school and high school so I was nervous at first it had something to do with that, which freaked me out. I have also been smoking since I was like 17 and daily for many, many years with maybe like a year or two break all together since I was like 20. My goal that I have sticked to so far is to take a year off and see where I am at. Would like to keep it to like to two or three times a month if I ever go back to it, make it like a special event type deal. I have read that is about the limit for it to start messing with your dopamine system which us ADHD folks already have an issue with.

I might eventually try to go unmedicated for ADHD since I have quit the weed but I like where I am right now on Vyvanse. Actually just went down on dosage as well but have ran into issues with it since it has just gone generic and some of the generics have made me feel weird. But my prescriber has set it up so I only get the name brand now which has eliminated any issues.
