Rewatching 30 rock and it's obnoxious how Liz is portrayed as never excercising and always eating like hotdogs and mozz sticks and other junk and doesn't take care of her appearance, but in the pilot they state her weight which would be like impossible for her to maintain the way she's depicted. In general, average or slim celebs that act like they're not average or slim is just bizarre. I imagine they compare themselves to other actresses who are even tinier and it's probably a mind fuck but as a viewer I'm just like lol ok. New Girl does the same where Jess has to squeeze into these bike shorts to fit into her dress and it's stupid because we all know she's thin. It's patronizing that they try to make them relatable with that kinda stuff. And speaking of New Girl they always act like Nick is overweight too when he clearly isn't? I feel like popular media doesn't know how to handle the topic at all

One of the few shows that centered about body image and did it well was Shrill. Miss that one.

Strongly agree. It always struck me as a way for them to smuggle in fat jokes. I love 30 Rock (and think new girl can be fun) but I hate that element of the writing.

Interestingly, I feel like anime does this a lot where an episode will have some clearly perfectly fine character step on a scale and freak out. Usually it's a female character, but sometimes male. I think it's a universal trope.

If WBD's justification is "w are pivoting our animation strategy to theatrical releases" then does that mean the.future of DC animated films is dead?

Do they still make them? I haven't kept up for a while. I liked quite a few of the previous ones though, so I hope it's not dead.

Although I don't think they'll ever make one that touches Mask Of The Phantasm.

My wife and I were discussing the run of shows like Ugly Betty throughout the 2000s-2010s that do such a bad job with body image and weight, etc. It was so prevalent back in the day. Not that it still doesn't get written into shows now, but at least it is called out more often and isn't as common.

Yeah it's actually surreal watching older shows and having them complain about having a big butt, which is seen as desirable now. Speaking of course more to white western standards of beauty that im more familiar with. Old Friends and New Girls where they'd bust out the fast suit were awful. It's not always as overt now, but it's striking when it happens. I remember watching the Gilmore girls reboot season thing and they had an awful fat joke scene by the pool where a character existed just for them to be mocked and for the main characters to be disgusted by and I was like oh we're still doing this? OK

They do them all the time. I just counted and they have released 4 DC animated films this year alone, also a Batman Christmas movie coming out next month.

Just looked it up and the DUFF came out in 2015 which seems insane.

  14. I don't think DC animated movies is going anywhere; aside from the reboot, which probably would've happened anyway, that part of DC was practically unscathed by the merger. I haven't really watched anything after Apokolips War though

One of the weirdest is when they keep calling that very attractive and extremely not overweight lady in Love Actually fat.

I saw a clip of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown on TikTok and now I decided to watch it and I am hooked. I guess I’ll keep my hbo max one more month.

Hate to be a bummer but Batgirl was completely erased. There’s no shot at it coming back. It also wasn’t screening well at all, unlike the Coyote movie.

Yeah Coyote Vs Acme was fully complete which is why the outrage directed at Warners was far greater this time. According to deadline their phones were blowing up all weekend from angry agents and talent. Bullying works
