I think of it as:

goal: Super Bowl, always, especially for any contender above a certain level

better way to evaluate how close you are to that goal if you don’t reach it: holistic regular season + postseason resume, not weighing postseason particularly higher than regular season success against strong teams

 

@whitenblue88 having that opinion makes sense considering the Colts were that “almost” team for a long time before they finally won in 2006. I bet he wouldnt trade that even though Manning was famously better in the regular season than playoffs

One of my favorite bits of info I heard in the offseason is that every head coach in the league hired by their team before 2017 has won at least one super bowl: Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, Andy Reid, John Harbaugh, Pete Carroll.

Of the head coaches hired in 2017 or later, the longest-tenured are Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Sean McDermott.

Of the three, only McVay has won a super bowl.
