I mean, I think stereotyping people as rich rednecks is kinda odd

tbf just take out the word redneck and the point holds. Rich celebrities are allied to fame and wealth foremost, so even the “best” of them are going are going to decry cancel culture because it’s seen as a threat to those things.

  3. Again, I think she's just old. Someone can be rich and still have a track record worth approaching in good faith

  4. This band are shit, they have always been shit and they're spineless fucking cowards. Someone throws a Palestinian flag/scarf on stage at your gig and you walk off? Scum. 'If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.'

    It's all hell.

I've hated them since they tried class policing IDLES a couple of years back, trying to delegitamise them. They can fuck off.

I'm ok with an artist saying "politics is not my lane i make music no comment" but bailing on a gig over a soft article of clothing is a bit much esp for a not exactly previously "apolitical" act...

It’s hard to respect anyone who says no comment during active ethnic cleansing but yeah going to point of storming off over a Palestinian flag is extra gross
also I have no idea who that band is

Also, if you issue a "this gig is over if you throw that palestinian scarf back onstage" ultimatum in the current climate I assume it must mean on some level you are just looking for an excuse to wind this gig down for an early bedtime

Last point is weird. Who cares? FYI, they're a sizeable post-punk band from the UK. I think they have some decent songs but have always seemed like weird dudes to me.

It’s not a point lol it’s just I don’t know them at all and what they’re like but what is described sucks

I was surprised the previous allegations didn't get the band blacklisted from everything.

I remember a few years ago, I was like "I should listen to more Nothing but Thieves," and my housemate sent me a thread similar to that, and I have never been saved from getting into a band I would inevitable find out was fucking horrible at a more opportune moment.

Fuck Nothing but Thieves, man, every station that players them has no morals.

Oh right. Ok, completely forgot about that tbh.

Did that news story/the allegations ever really break into mainstream outlets?

I think so? Especially after Feist left the tour over it. It’s been a bit though.

Nothing but thieves are pretty huge right now, and are probably going to be on a lot of festivals coming up (and they have already been on plenty of high profile European festivals - I expect a big run in the US next). The allegations don't seem to have had an impact, especially in the UK where they just had the #1 album. I expect almost Muse levels of worship over there (think future Glastonbury headliners).

I think it's had less of an impact because assuming the allegations were in the UK, the age of consent there is 16 and I think there's more of just an ick factor to age gaps vs an illegal aspect to consider (and I'm sure plenty of people aren't even grossed out by it). Their response was basically 'we involved the police who cleared us of any wrongdoing but we recognize the power imbalance we have and will do better' and that seemed to be enough to allow their career to go on.

I was bummed to learn recently about all the allegations as I had no idea, and I think musically they're an amazing group with a stellar discography.

Did they have to walk on Richard’s back with his handpicked sock collection when they were teenagers?
