This Green Day tour is def aimed at the 40+ crowd with the support they chose. I think Hella Mega was aiming at a younger crowd.

But people were bringing up birthdays and wedding anniversaries. Movies are definitely a lot closer to albums than either of those. And there have been many album anniversaries celebrated by playing it in full. So not sure how bringing up something to counter the birthday and anniversary talk is “insanely dumb.”

No but saying that does imply that to a lot of people. And I have seen people on Facebook and Reddit already saying that.

I personally didn’t think they would play both due to the time that it would take. But if they only mentioned celebrating Dookie I may have thought they would play all of it. I’m just not a fan of this type of language because it might confuse some fans and make them think they are getting something they aren’t when they buy the tickets. I know I got burned by Sum 41 (although they even said they would be playing all of it but then didn’t).

Did my first Roo last year and loved it. It’s a hike for me so it’ll always be lineup dependent but could not recommend it more.

It will be interesting to see how well it sells. Green Day are still a popular band, and they are celebrating two classic albums, but we’ll see. A lot of the musical acts that are big right now (Olivia, Doja, Dua, Billie, SZA, Drake, etc.) have stuck to arenas so far (that may also be due to timing and when they were able to tour but still) and those acts seem like more relevant in 2023 than Green Day.

HOWEVER, celebrating those two albums might get more people to come to the shows.

Especially since Hella Mega (and all tours that year) really benefited from the world opening back up and live music returning.

I'm waiting to see the set lists for the first shows in NY & Boston before deciding anything and how much of those two albums they play - I'm not flying or driving 6 hours (my only choices) for a same old Green Day show I've seen several times already

This just feels like one of those shows I'll be able to score a $15 ticket to day of on Stubhub.
But if they end up putting a limited amount of $30 tickets up on the presale like Blink did, I'll probably just snag them.

Offspring and/or Rise Against would have probably been a better fit in that position than SP but we'll see how it goes.

Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day toured together for Lollapalooza 1994 - I think that's the connection for them touring next year

That’s what I was saying from the getgo. In the context of a “90’s alt rock-themed” tour, then it makes total sense. But the fact that the other acts on this lineup are Rancid and The Linda Lindas makes SP stick out like a sore thumb

Rancid was an alt rock radio staple in the mid 90s like Green Day & the Pumpkins - and are a third bill kind of act on a stadium tour so it kind of makes since

closest thing you’ll find to a European style fest in the US. once you spend one late night/early morning bouncing around roo you’ll wonder why all other fests don’t have such a robust late night scene.
