It's 44 and rainy here this morning. This is the perfect album for this weather.

Love the callback to Handwritten in The Weatherman, "to the lovers still in love with the night"

This album feels like it's half a Horrible Crowes album, half a Gaslight anthem. But then even the Gaslight songs are about ghosts and cobwebs and spiders and haunts. It's like they engineered it to be an October album

The weatherman has become one of my favorites on the album and just of the year. Whatever the hell that riff is makes me want to like ride a horse through Ireland lol. It’s also my wife’s favorite on the album.

I checked with Drew on Slack, but I didn't hear back... It would be great to have you pen some words on a band you're passionate about, Craig, if Drew doesn't think he'll get around to it!

i gotta say: i love how the band has always kept in mind side A and B on vinyl, when it comes to sequencing the tracks. no exception here.

also, i'm gonna ahead and assume the "nobody's darlings" line in michigan 1975 is a nod to Lucero. love it even more for that.

Hearing that studio version of Michigan, 1975 for the first time was incredible. Big fan of Empires too, love the use of piano on this album.

I should've bought the indie exclusive vinyl version of History Books since my Alt Press "Tiger's Eye" variant is delayed. Ultra-sad!

They just said in their email its, "delayed" but I don't recall a target ship date. I'll check in sometime this week.

First impressions of this after just one listen are that the songs are great but it feels more like another Brian Fallon solo record than Gaslight Anthem and that is kind of disappointing to me (even though I love his solo stuff!)
Something about the production not working for me either.

Haven't read any other thoughts on it here so I can keep an open mind for future listens but feels a bit of a strange one off the bat.

Threw this on while driving home from Milwaukee Saturday night. It's a great driving record, especially in the fall.

Yeah this song fucking rules, I love when Brian goes for it in the final chorus. Cathartic.

Inspired me to go check for mine. Got so pumped a vinyl arrived. Wasn't Gaslight. It was 1989 (Taylor's Version) which I forget my wife ordered.

The one part that sounds like Fallon solo to me is Weatherman/Empires, but really, to be fair, I remember thinking the same thing about Mae/National Anthem on first listen, that those were very "NON GASLIGHT SOUNDING" when I first heard them, same with Underneath The Ground.

Maybe it just takes a few extra listens for certain types of slow songs to register.

I kinda want to wait until I've heard it 5-10 times before giving a real proper review
