I have yet to meet a Pennsylvanian that claims the Midwest

Yea, no legitimate Pennsylvanian would consider themselves Midwest.

As a Michigander, I call ourselves more Great Lakes than Midwest but that's just me.

I feel like parts of western NY and PA have strong Midwest characteristics, like Buffalo and Pittsburgh. They feel more akin to Detroit or Cleveland than they do, like, NYC or Philly. People want to break regions down by state but it’s not clean enough for that. In Ohio, I feel like Dayton up to Columbus and Cleveland are all midwestern cities. Cincinnati feels like a weird hybrid eastern and southern city and less midwestern, with more in common with Louisville or Nashville than Cleveland.

I would call those more Rust Belt (Detroit/Pittsburgh/Buffalo/Cleveland) cities as well but Michigan could be split between like Rust Belt and Great Lakes, mainly southern Michigan vs. Northern/UP.

I consider pretty much anything west of 95 to be the "mid west" or worse lol

Even like Indiana/Illinois at the southern portions almost end up being like Kentuckish rather than Midwest. We have plants down there for my job and the you start to get some twang out of people when they speak.

Calling any place in the eastern half of the US anything remotely “west” is still really dumb

I don’t think eastern Ohio feels Midwest, including Cleveland. It’s too close to Erie and Pittsburgh, and too far away from Chicago.
I do agree Cincinnati feels southern. I think the whole Midwest vibe in Ohio comes from western Ohio which I’m not even sure most of western Ohio exists. No one goes there

In the worst case scenario for Israel, where all deaths were caused by the IDF and then used to justify a large scale bombing campaign and thousands more casualties, does anything happen? Is there any change to the US relationship with Israel/Palestine or any reexamination of the narrative spread?

I'm thinking this situation seems more and more plausible based on what we know and the lack of information coming through, and I have no idea what would happen if this was actually verified.

Probably to Cedar Point or Toledo. Everything south of that on the western side of the state might as well be undiscovered.

So many great quotes in these

"Americans laugh and never stop showing their teeth, not because anything humorous has happened to them, but because laughter is their style. America is a land of explicitness in all it's affairs and ideas. It is better to be rich than to be poor, and instead of wasting time thinking of the causes of poverty and eliminating them, Americans try in every way to acquire A million dollars. It is better to laugh than to weep, so he laughs. No doubt in the past he has forced himself to laugh, same as he has forced himself to exercise and to brush his teeth, subsequently these things become daily habits. Now laughter rattles in his throat, irrespective of his circumstances or his wishes. If you see a laughing American, it is not because he finds something comical. He laughs only because an American must laugh"

"Americans are actually quite proud of their Indians, even so does the director of a zoo take pride in a rare old lion"

" San Francisco might be the most beautiful American city, because it in no way is reminiscent of America"

On Hollywood "The motion picture capitol. It smelled of petrol and fried ham. Beautiful girls with unpleasant spiteful eyes filled the city"

"there are four standard types of American films, each of these standard types have the same plot, and are repeated endlessly. American spectators see the same thing year end and year out. Americans have become so accustomed to it that if presented with a film with a new plot they might burst into tears, like a child whose toy has been taken even though it was old and broken"

"Wherever you go in America, from the North, to the South, from East to West, from New Orleans to New York City to New Jersey, everywhere you will see poverty and riches stand hand and hand, at all the roads and all the bridges of this great country"
