I agree that Insomniac should have been an Eternal Paradigm. It’s a shame it was a TP instead.

 

The only opinion I have on Insomniac is that 86 should’ve been a single

I will always love this band but man, they really did fall off a cliff with their material after American Idiot didn't they? I think there's about 4-5 great sounds on 21st CB.

Post-Warning really was a fork in the road for them I feel. It would have been interesting to see them double down on that kind of writing, and where they'd be now, whilst I realise American Idiot was the best thing for their career and relevancy.

 

Make 21CB an 11 song record and it’s an incredible follow up.

Make the trilogy 13 songs, all recorded in the same clarity/production of Tre and it’s a great record. There are gems hiding on Dos that suck because of the shoebox sound - if Stray Heart had the touch they had on Nimrod in King for a Day for example, I think it would be a staple in their live set.

I remember wayyy back in the day when MTV News was in its prime, they had a weekly music news show and when "Insomniac" came out, they talked to Green Day then talked to people that hated the album.

I get that vibe too, but honestly I think that turning into a quasi-cover band of good Green Day is maybe the only way to get good music out of them now
