Yeah trying to cross mile marker 12 to get to 4 in Old Town is the big hang up here

I don’t remember exactly, but they might have some breaks at some of the intersections to get across. That might be enough into the neighborhoods where the fencing is less difficult.

Had a solid day at the Grand Rapids Marathon yesterday! Not the PR I'd hoped for (really wanted to go for the win, but hit some stomach issues and other factors that slowed me down a bit) but I'm proud of the time and the effort regardless.

Your 20 mile split is my current pace projection for my half on Sunday, lmao. You're incredible, bud.

Athens, Georgia. My friend who came up here in April to run this one with me lives near there, so we were supposed to do that one together... and then she got hurt. So now I'm running it with her mom, haha.

I honestly don't know if I could run a single mile at 5:59 right now. Which is just pathetic for me.

What's the weather like down there at this time of year?

Thanks! The marathon never gets easy, but I don't think it will ever stop feeling like a little miracle of an achievement to get it done.

The accomplishment of the marathon is a great one. I've realized that to run it to my best ability I'm honestly not willing to make those sacrifices in my day-to-day life. Maybe one day that'll change and I'll dive deep into proper training for a marathon.

This was exactly how I felt pre-2020, when I started running a lot more on account of having nothing else to do and nothing else that felt as “normal.” Not sure I ever would have ever wanted to do one had it not been for the pandemic, but it’s one of the real positives of that challenging time for me. I find it so fulfilling and I love how good all those miles make me feel.

It really is a commitment, though. Until tapering for this marathon, I’d been running 9–11 hours a week since July.

I’m doing my second full next year because my best friend got inspired by me running my first back in 2021 and I agreed to run with him. I’m already pretty overwhelmed thinking about it. Gonna plan out my 2024 schedule soon.

While there are certainly a lot of ways this can work and I see tons of people running together at halfs and fulls, I’d recommend you both be honest with each other with what your aiming to run and what your time/pace will be and also agree that if one of you feels better or worse that it’s ok to split up and run your own race.

When I ran a half in Maine a few weeks ago with my sister and BIL we had like a 15 second discussion at the start where we were like, “oh are we running this together? No? Ok cool. Maybe see you guys at an air station if one of us feels good or someone has to take a shit” lol.

We were also curiously talking about how if we did stay together how some of us might get injured or have a bad time since we weren’t training at the same places that staying together at an unpracticed pace would be committing the dreaded “something new on race day” no no.

Oh, no, I want to beat him by 45-60 minutes, haha. But we’ll “be there together” and whatnot.

I did everything wrong during this half. If I ever can sleep a full night, not have stomach issues, have to piss mid race, and not cramp up at mile 11, it’s over for you fast hoes.

2:02 and change. Ugh. Course sucked and I ran it so poor.

Sorry to hear, man. It's tough to get every little thing right, and sometimes, a lot of things just go wrong. I also slept absolutely terribly a week ago, and found that impacted me a lot. I haven't figured out how to get a decent night's sleep ahead of a big race, with nerves and schedule adjustments and whatnot. You'll do better next time.

Yeah. It’s more frustrating just because I had done some really good training for this one and finally integrated speed intervals and heart rate pacing.

That amount going wrong, you throw the proverbial tape away and move forward. Trust your training and stick with it. Unfortunately, not every race is the best. There will be better performances ahead.

Looked a bit more at my Strava data and I ran exactly the race I wanted to for nine miles and then it fell apart. I can learn from that. Absolutely wiped now, though.

Now that I am several weeks past my fall marathon, I think I can reflect back from a pretty objective place. Overall, this year was a success. Finally being able to consistently run and build mileage again after some frustrating times recovering from a stress fracture, part of me was just happy to have consistent running again. I was able to do two half marathons, train for and race a full marathon, and do a few road races as well. I was able to get a Boston qualifier in the marathon.

All of that said, I am excited to maintain my base through the cold winter and start picking things up in the spring. While I didn't get the marathon time I wanted, I think having a full year of running going into the next training cycle will be really beneficial. I think there are also some adjustments that I can make to my training that can also allow me to get to the next level. But overall, I am pretty happy with how this year played out.

What’s everyone’s mileage shaping up to be for this year? I’m gunning for the big 3,650.
