Trying to figure out where Jay Wile’s voice is featured on this record. It hasn’t stood out to me yet.

edit: it also sounds the most like something Jay would do. I don’t have good enough headphones to hear if he’s doing backing vox on it or not though.

 

Who is Jay Wile? Just somebody you’re familiar with or is it a name we should know for any particular reason?

The live drum production on Comforter is so inspired. Kenny is something else man, he’s got the vision

When putting it on I realized how odd it was for a Vacationer record to release during autumn, but honestly, a good bit of this sounds noticeably less summer-y than the other records. It reminds me of how Being Funny In A Foreign Language sounds like The 1975 but ~cozy~

I also absolutely broke a sweat dancing alone in my living room to Heirlooms

 

He’s this underrated singer / producer I’ve been following for like 6 years. He made waves because his voice sounds *exactly* like Frank Ocean circa 2012. But he’s good by his own merits.

 

Kenny just dropping a whole ass record out of nowhere was not on my bingo card this week, hell yeah

Dialogue is a vibe. Wonder why the album is up on Bandcamp but not Spotify. Wonder if that was a mistake? Gonna have to give this a listen asap

 

I assume any bizarre release strategy has everything to do with getting placements on the big streamer playlists. If he releases a few singles, he’s more likely to get plays there before dropping the whole thing.

Bandcamp is for the fans.

Awesome! Definitely going to check this out after I give it my first listen. I've been waiting for a new release since he tweeted in August 2022 (!) that the new record was done.

 

So cool watching him dig through vinyl to find his samples. That's one thing I've always appreciated about Kenny, he's just a true music lover through and through.

Making this type of music (especially coming from pop punk and indie music) requires you to have a vast knowledge of the music that exists in the world to even be able to know what you're looking for. And just being passionate enough about making this type of music to be able to sift through hours and hours of old vinyl records to find something that sparks an idea for a song.

 

I've always wished for a Vacationer cover of a TSL song. Doesn't even have to be an obvious choice. A deep cut would be interesting to hear in this style.

 

Man, I love Kenny and was stoked to see this post this morning. Really looking forward to digging into this

The documentary is awesome. Really cool to hear where Ken’s head was at through the making of this, and enlightening to see how involved the other members are. I’d honestly love to see that entire process in more detail, it’s fascinating how one person essentially creates an entire arrangement of music and samples that could stand on its own before even taking it to the other members to add to
