This could be true. But I also think most of what Reich was saying was coach speak and probably didn't mean much. I find it kinda hard to believe we would hire a HC and then trade a ton of assets to draft the guy he didn't want. Bryce was pretty much the consensus top QB in this draft class for a couple years. If the Texans had the first pick, regardless of what they'll say now, they would've picked Bryce. To me, it feels like this was the draft we were going to take someone. No matter who the top QB was, we were going to trade up aggressively for him.

The Panthers front office is just garbage. The pursuit of a QB has been pathetic and embarrassing.

I never put it all together like that. @phaynes12 might have a point. Not about “he’s short and he can’t”, but, about the Panthers sending absolutely opposite signals and trading away what a QB needs just to draft the damn QB

yeah, while it’s true that QB play benefits and gets inflated from weapons, at a certain point that’s just how the league works right? Play with better players who know more about how to beat defenses and how to be a good teammate… it makes you understand football on that level. It’s not just the most basic, good WRs get more open… occasionally it’s like that, and in those cases basic advanced stats will often hint at that (like my argument about the game last night), but not against better defenses.

But it’s also, learning from your OL what to look for to check into blitzes and how they’re gonna respond… learning from your WR what they see pre-snap and how they’ll run that route… etc. a QB; no matter how talented; isn’t gonna consistently make good reads until they understand that kinda micro-strategy shit that happens at every position of football. And having veterans around you, who have proven they know enough about that stuff to succeed, just advances you mentally. Sometimes you will literally watch a QB start seeing and responding to stuff on tape more when they have that around them, like Burrow when he transferred to LSU.

and yeah this affects every QB. Trevor Lawrence is going through this right now and putting up very pedestrian statistics despite having well above average technique and advanced mental abilities for a QB his age.

Where I disagree is, CJ’s skillset was already molded into one where he can make good decisions fast enough to get out of trouble with a subpar supporting cast. Bryce was the QB that’s gonna go off if he has talent, but struggle if he doesn’t, cause he needs to be able to extend plays (within his current skillset, not saying that won’t change)
