lol imagine Trump even showing up let alone doing all the little procedural bullshit and having to read things. I think they should do it for our enjoyment, they certainly aren't doing anything else for us.

IIRC speaker does not have to actual be a member of the house. they can pick anyone and as long as they get the votes they become speaker

I’ve never been a coffee drinker so I really don’t get it either haha…but I am happy that we have a local small chain around here that competes with them that people generally like better. I think they’ve got like 4 or 5 locations. We also have a similar sized local chain that competes with Chipotle called El Diablo that is definitely more liked than Chipotle around here

For real. They recently passed a law that anyone currently indicted for a felony cannot be Speaker.

Another example of a FL dem candidate who will lose. The only guy announced running in my congressional district (FL's 13th) against the GOP incumbent is a former NSA spook who is the founder of "Russileaks", an anti-Putin version of Wikileaks. It looks like he is also a carpetbagger that has lived in Raytheon Acres his entire life that just moved here to run too. He also developed a software that makes it easier for companies to outsource overseas. lol.

House rules are not laws and the Republicans are still in the majority so could vote to change the rules at any time.

It's that and the consistency of what you get, even if what you get is not ultimately very good. There's comfort in being able to go into a Starbucks in any town in America and order something that tastes more or less the same as it does in every other town.

I think another part of it has to do with it coming into popularity along with the commoditization of air travel in the late 80s/early 90s. Somewhat suddenly a relatively large group of white collar workers found themselves zigzagging across the country (or world) and there's appeal in being able to know you can get a half-decent coffee drink, rather than taking a gamble on a local spot or settling for crappy bodega/gas station coffee, a consistent caffeine hit, etc.
