this is by far the worst change for me in terms of minute-to-minute use of the site

 

Yep, agreed. On one hand I hate how shitty headlines are these days, but on the other hand they're kind of how I determine if I want to actually read the article or not. This makes the site way less useful to me now in terms of a news gathering/article finding place.

 

Can’t wait to see what this thread looks like when Twittxr becomes 100% unusable.

 

I really gotta get on making a threads account.

I've found bluesky to be somewhat useful, but also sometimes cluttered with folks i Follow's replies. Part of that is just me needing to find more people to follow I suppose. And I still don't quite get how the different "feeds" work. But I know @Jason Tate was having issues getting their posts to embed, so would probably have to stick to screenshots for now haha

 

I gave Threads a solid try… and it truly sucked, lol. But if a certain type of poster commits to using it and posting its embeds as Twittxr collapses, idk, fair enough.

Bluesky lets you customize a lot of those settings, in like whether you see reposts and replies from people you follow. You can even make it so you only see replies that get a certain amount of likes, lol, which I thought was silly at first but actually liked playing with.

 

I also like that Bluesky bullies that fucking loser Matt Yglesias, like he deserves. The only downside is, I’m pretty sure he has a kink for being bullied.

on the flip side my 15 year old brother has almost definitely been fed misogynistic shit by the algorithm and I’m too afraid to ask what he thinks about anything

 

My POS brother is 13 years older than me and a former Navy guy who listens to Rogan, has the stupid don't tread on me flag, and all the other bullshit. I haven't really talked to him other than what I would say to stranger at a party passing by since he threw a TV remote in my face when I was going to take a drink out of a beer because I called him a dumbass since he was so drunk he couldn't figure out his TV remote. This was after the Michigan vs. Ohio State game last year. He also told my girlfriend to shut the fuck up and her opinion doesn't matter and screamed at my dad. He has refused to apologize to anybody and in fact does not believe he said the stuff to my girlfriend. Great times.

That's the point. By making it less enticing to click away, he thinks it will result in people spending more time on Twitter itself. His 4D chess plan is that publishers will see fewer clicks from Twitter and be forced to put more of their content directly on the platform. Which is a reach...
