One thing I want to add to this aspect: It's not just about keeping the team together but also about enticing free agents to come play for you, because yeah maybe you'll still have to shell out more money to keep them away from a team with Mahomes but you'll still have the edge compared to teams who are starting Josh Dobbs for example, and will do a better job building yourself for the time when you do have that superstar QB

I get the point that you’re making, but let’s be honest if we’re only using stats to prove our point. The dude also ran for 700+ yards and scored seven touchdowns with his legs. Hell, Jalen Hurts only threw for about 500 more yards and seven more touchdowns than Jones did last season.

Jones just didn’t, and still doesn’t, pass the eye test.

3900 yards and 22 touchdowns is still incredibly mid. QBs you sign to that much money throw for more than that alone. Shit, Trevor had more yards and touchdowns last year NOT including his own runs and it wasn’t even a consistently good year.

 

Tbf you're also saying Lawrence shouldn't get paid like a top 10 QB when his time comes and that is what we think is dumb

 

I get the point you’re making but it’s too extreme. QBs ranked 10-16 are worth resigning. Maybe not to a market setting contract, but to a fairly competitive one. The problem with Daniel is he’s below that

Jones has 4th highest cash earning this year but not top 5 in the next 2 or next 3 years

Making *every* QB highest paid doesn’t make sense but making the best QB in each class the highest paid (unless it’s just a shitty class with no QBs worth a top ten pick like 2013 or 2022) is just how cap inflation works
