Excellent point. Nobody look up who his rival QBs are or how they came to be where they are.

Couldn’t they have franchise tagged him?

Brady and Mahomes are ruining analysis for everyone. You can win without a top 5 qb. Great coaching and great roster can make up for it. 49ers and Rams are proof. Cowboys too to some extent. Eagles with Foles. Those were stacked teams with great coaching. Yes of course try to get the top 3 QB but don’t settle and overpay if you don’t get it. Build the team fire the bad coach and try to hire the right one. And when you get that top tier elite qb and it’s obvious yes pay that one

I reject stafford’s inclusion in that argument. Dude was nasty that year.

He wasn’t though. He threw a ton of bad picks and the team was awesome. He’s good but he wasn’t top 5, didn’t get an mvp vote. But also the rams made the Super Bowl with Goff. Neither of those guys could win with bad or mediocre rosters and non-elite coaching

They could either franchise him or saquon and franchising jones means they would have had to sign saquon (which wasnt and isnt happening) so signing jones was in a way part of the route to keep saquon around

Why not sign Saquon? Legitimately asking, I think you could sing him for a few years for what 15 mil a year?

Nobody, especially Joe Schoen, look up the Giants record when Saquon doesn't play

I think the fact that they needed an actual elite QB to finally get the job done kinda proves the point that mid ain’t enough

Which also I think proves the point that if you have Mid don’t pay them like they’re elite lol

they wont sign saquon long term because of his injury history. This is almost certainly his last year on the team.

I don’t know, in the nfl where it’s one and done I don’t know if that’s fair. To your point though they at least thought they did need elite qb play or they wouldn’t have made the trade. McVay had talked a lot about how he completely screwed up the game plan in the first SB and couldn’t adjust and seemed to learn from that. Aaron Donald won that game against the bengals more than the qb play imo. If Stafford does it again with this roster though I’ll stand down

Aaron Donald single-handedly won them that game. Burrow was in the process of throwing to an open Chase with no safety help.

Staffords throw at the end of the game against the Bucs is what justified the trade though. That was clutch

For what its worth, yes after that game last night and the way the season has started its very easy to LOLZZ JONES and pretend theres even a 1% chance thats hes their only problem, i still dont think the giants did wrong by signing him. Its effectively a two year deal. Sure its an $86m 2 year deal, but after last season how *much* he improved in just one season under daboll the giants had every reason to believe they were making a good investment rather than run out the next few years with a veteran while they waited for another option.

they took a swing and it looks like they probably missed. it happens. it sucks when it happens, but it happens.

Yeah I thought daboll made him decent. I felt they definitely overpaid tho given he just had one ok season under his belt. But “decent” qbs aren’t exactly common.
